I'm glad they're still friends and still writing together. There was a lot of talk at one time that Nuno got pissed at Perry for not using the material they'd written on FTLOSM and that Nuno had said Perry was a prick and hard to get along with. Of course that was part of the usual Perry character assassination BS that I was reading on VH1 and BT at the time. :(

Steve was writing music with Nuno back around the time of FTLOSM as well. Nothing ever came of it that I'm aware of. I'm not sure how this will be different...

"Nuno, I like the songs, but I really am toast..."

Here's to hope!
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I would so love to hear that one.

I was actually fortunate enough to communicate a few times with Nuno via email and asked him about "Always".He said that he and Perry where really close friends, that Steve had the tapes and that it was up to SP if it would ever see the light of day.He also said that he was a really cool guy,and that he had a lot of fun working with him.

well, maybe now that song will be released...wonder why it wasn't on the SP reissues?
Btw, where is that sexy pic of NB wearing JUST a guitar? ;)

Interview with Nuno from a 1992 issue of Guitar World:

We've heard rumours that you're writing songs with Journey's lead vocalist, Steve Perry.

Last time we toured Europe, I called home and my mom told me that some guy named "Steve Perry" called. I knew someone from my hometown with that name, but I couldn't figure out why he'd be calling me. The only other person I could think of with that name was the singer in Journey. So I mentioned Journey to my mom, and she said, "Yeah, that's the guy." She remembered him because he spoke Portuguese. After several weeks of missing each other, Steve and I finally connected o n the telephone while I was in Germany. It was real casual-we shot the shit for about a half-hour. He said he just wanted to call because he heard that I was Portuguese, and he had been convinced that no one else in the business was of that descent. One thing led to another, and while I was in Los Angeles we got together and wrote a song. It went so well that we decided to try again. So while I had a week off between Extreme's American and European tours, Steve came to my hometown, we rented a studio and recorded for the whole week.

What was it like to work with Steve?

It was a thrill. You have to understand that in my eyes he is a legend. Journey had an incredible impact on me when I was growing up. When we got together the first time in his apartment, I was so overcome with emotion that at one point I almost had to stop. Steve was singing and I was playing an acoustic guitar. We were working on a 4-track machine and sharing a single microphone placed in the middle of the room. He just started improvising lines over a chord progression that I had written and I just kept getting lost in his vocals. It was difficult for me to believe that he was singing right across the room. It took a while to overcome that. He is such an amazing talent.

SP seems to have that effect on all the musicians he's working with, doesn't he? 8)

It's not the first time I read about musician saying similar things after writing/singing with Perry.

There's a 'thanks to Steve Perry' from Chris the drummer in Orson, on their 'Bright Idea' album too.
And it is our Steve Perry. The band are from SF I believe. I quite like some of the album.
Seems he's helping a lot of young musicians.

Red13JoePa wrote:Yep.

I'm all about teeing off on perry but at the risk of sounding light in the loafers THAT particular performance, he CLEARLY was just having a great time, enjoying an awesome crowd infected performance and living in that moment, for lack of an even cheesier cliche.

I'll cut the guy a break on that one, it's a terrific live performance from all involved.

Yep, gave a terrific performance on that boot.

You think you caught me flip/flopping or something?

Big deal.
I'm not going to hold a candellight vigil because a news service resurrected a 16-year-old legend of a recording session.

Flip/flopping nah.....but anybody that likes ROR has to have a "tiny" bit of loon in them. I mean that in a good way. What's the matter Red? It's honestly not a crime to like Perry. :?

Defensive?
I GUESS I'm gulity if as you suggest the charge of defensive about being thrown into the "loon"y bin with the rest of you fine folk is,merely appreciating a bootleg live performance and a record which I credit the other band memebers as much as I do perry for being great.
If that, along with stating his vast online overratedness is guilty of being a loon than so be it.
