May I?

Postby sindee67 » Tue Jun 26, 2007 11:40 am

Ok, for what it's worth, may I share a few thoughts..
If not, TOO BAD! :D
I've read and commented on the recent events of what's happened...
Now, that, once AGAIN, the SHOCK of one, if not THE MOST AWESOME BANDS in the WHOLE WORLD is without a lead singer, has wore off..
Here's my 2 cents..
I grew up watching JOURNEY!
I was raised on the 60's, 70's and the JAZZ of New Orleans.
I would sneak to the tv after midnight when I knew they would be on.
I loved my JOURNEY!
My prom, my first kiss, my first dance....JOURNEY!!!
I read Brian May's comments, and I totally agree with him.
JOURNEY is at a crossroads.
Do they try and salvage their legacy? Do they trek forward to a new adventure?
Or, do they shop the nearest flea market for a set of rocking chairs and knitting needles?
Why did the guys decide on the name of JOURNEY anyway.
Does anyone remember?
Let's look at a few rock and roll greats that have changed their lead singers.
QUEEN, AC/DC, VAN HALEN, and my all time favorite, so much my favorite I had them tattooed
on my body...LYNYRD SKYNYRD!~
They moved on, and had some awesome hits.
Why can't JOURNEY?
They had it made with JSS!
I don't want to speak for all the PERRY LOONS in this community, so, I'll speak for myself.
It's not that Steve Perry is NOT the lead singer of JOURNEY, it's not that Steve Augeri LOOKED LIKE STEVE PERRY W/A PERM..
It's the fact that they tried their best to have a ''sound alike''~! At what cost?
Steve Augeri's voice, and a war that has existed how many years????
Now, for whatever reason, JSS, has been given the ol' KICK IN THE ASS!
Again, there is nothing from the band as to why...
We're suppose to sit and wait like little sheep grazing in the pastures?
NOT THIS HILL JACK!!!
Are we fans not worth an explanation? Aren't we worth that to them?

I apologize if I'm beating a dead horse, but, I just had to RELEASE!!!
As for JOURNEY, THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES....
I'm going to go and listen to my SKYNYRD now!!!

I'm a fan of many other bands, but I have zero interest in yet another Journey "retro" with a Perry soundalike. Their last album was a mixed bag but I loved many of the non-Augerri tracks, and Dean was a surprise. Brian May was right - you can't replace Freddie Mercury, so you find someone else with his own personality and re-invigorate your band's sound. I had great hopes for a Soto-led Journey album, now I'll just have to settle for whatever else Jeff does. I own nearly everything he's done, and swear on hiw Yngwie albums - he will be getting my continued support.

Since JSS wasn't "Perry" enough for them, I suggest they drop that NoMoTa bullshit immediately.
If they truly wanted "NoMoTa" then why are they still all over that image and sound.

Should have been MoTa.

I think too you have to look at when some of those bands replaced their lead singers and who they replaced them with. For AC/DC and VH, it was in the height of their popularity, and hard rock/ melodic rock was still the biggest (or amongst the biggest) selling music out there. Brian Johnson has now been with ACDC through about three different generations of fans, and some 27 odd years. Sammy was a well respected solo artist who brought his own following (just a bit smaller than that ofd VH themselves) to the fold.
But look at some of these bands during the same era who tried and failed. Quiet Riot comes to mind (Anyone remember Paul Shortino's stint with them? Didn't think so...) The Crue with John Corabi? Huge disaster...and KISS never fully recovered from losing Ace and Peter...
Also, take the timing into consideration. These days, expecially to the casual observer and not the super fan, any band that goes out on the road without something close to the original lineup is considered a phony. (OK sure, so there's some yokels who don't realize it ain't Steve P singing till midway through the show...we aint talking about them...) For Journey, I wonder what would have become of them if the timing were different? What if Neal and Jon had've continued on without Perry in, say , 1988? Would the audience have been more accepting of a new voice if the change happened while the band was still relevant to the current music scene?

I dunno...to quote Max Klinger, "If I had all the answers, I'd run for God"...

I doubt it. Journey's record sales were in freefall...in five years they dropped from 9 million to 7 million to 2.5 million....so although an album released in '88/89 would have outsold Arrival there's no guarantee that it would have performed much better than TBF did.

Plus Journey's hopes of launching a new line-up would probably have been thwarted by the backlash against AOR/hair rock in 1990/1991, in any case.

No, Cain and Schon made a rare smart decision when they decided to form Bad English instead.

And I'd say Perry was right to pull the plug on Journey in 1987 too. Journey's time in the big leagues was coming to a natural end so his decision to put it all on hold preserved the band's stature and dignity....for a few years anyway.
