OK this July 11 concert is beginning to scare me now. They better not play too much of their new stuff.

Very interesting comment.

Journey is being fucking EVISCERATED by the online fan community for the interested in our legacy comment.

And there are likely a bunch of die hards who DO want to hear songs from the new record but BJ has to keep the majority of that ticket-buying audience in mind.

If I like it, I like it.....if I don't, I don't.....doesn't matter if it's old or new. I've listen to some of the sound bytes and while a couple of them are really good, over all I'm not digging their new stuff at all. Love their stuff right up to Keep the Faith, actually even These Days and Crush...... but past that, I'm not liking the direction they are taking. But then I'm not a big country fan either.

I'm going to jump in here. God love BON JOVI. Up through "These Days," I was one of their biggest fans. Afterwards? Not so much.

My fascination stopped with the release of "Crush." Maybe it was my age. You know, older, wiser? Man! One day you're listening to Cinderella's, Night Songs and the next you're driving along in your sensible four door listening to political talk radio. ROTFL! Most likely though it was because the band simply ran out of steam and wrote the same song OVER AND OVER.

Sorry, but the "Crush" and "Bounce" albums sound the same. Asides from songs like "It's My Life" and "Everyday," they were pretty unlistenable.

P.S. I love Richie Sambora. His two solo albums are simply brilliant. He is terribly underrated, particularly for his singing.

Bobby Van Halen wrote:In response to some you knocking bon jovi.
Firstly they have outsold journey twice, lets get that straight.Twice,120mill people can't be wrong.

Millions of people bought albums by boy bands like the Suckstreet Boys and NSuck.

Secondly while unplugged or whatever its called these days may sound like crap, they will still sell out any stadium in the world while journey will play to 1000,-2000 people .Or none at all considering they have no singer.

The last few tours by Journey have been amongst the top draws and biggest grossing tours. Perhaps not as big as Bon Jovi but nowhere near your fabricated numbers.

Thirdly, while steve perry is amazing or once was, where is he now?Steve Augeri,or how about that other guy that was just sacked.
While those guys can obviously "sing"..and damn well, its about entertainment and bon jovi has been entertaining for over 20 years, and will continue to do so.

Steve Perry is voluntarily retired, or is for the most part anyway. Augeri just completed a new Tall Stories album and JSS is ALWAYS working on something new.

Some people want to hear you give love a bad name written all over again.Get over it,

Ummm...No, they don't want to hear that song sounding like crap.

As for Jbj'S voice?Lets hear what steve perry sounds like these days.Your voice wouldnt sound crash hot if you'd played over 2500 shows, ill repeat that 2500 shows,to over 30 million people and will cont to do so.

Who cares what Perry sounds like. He is retired. Jon Bon Jovi sounds like a whiny brat with a head cold.

I love Bon Jovi's back catalogue all the way up through "Keep the Faith". Everything since then has been mediocre at best and crap at the worst. Even Journey's relatively bad albums during that same timeframe have been masterpieces by comparison, regardless of what wish-washy music buyers are saying with their purchases.

yep crush wasnt that crash hot,but it still had 6 or 7 strong tracks that most bands would love to have on there cd.
I disagree with these days tho,i think its one of there best cds.Anyway just my opinion.
As for masterpieces.....yes journey have made some great albums,up until 1986,that was a while ago, actually 20 years ago,but you just mentioned that even journeys so and so albums are masterpieces compared to bon jovi's.Haaahahaha,really..why dont you mention some of them, what would you like to compare. The 1986 sounding arrival,or the latest which nobody gave a crap about generations.Generations has 2 or maybe 3 good songs, hardly a masterpiece, while Bon Jovi's last cd kicked generations ass all the way back to the garbage bin where it belongs.
Funny these days,no pun intended, how you can find generations for 3 bux in the bargain bins, actually you can find arrival there too, even raised on radio if you look closely.
Yep masterpieces by your standard,no point arguing jovi are on tour...JOURNEY arent and wont be unless they appear on rockstar 3.
No point being jealous..go and listen to some journey from the 70's to 1986,they were great cds..thats about it.The rest is crap.

Not a horrible song, but when you look at BJ, a band who I guess at one time was considrered "Metal (not sure I'd disagree, maybe thinking they're a more popular Poison a metal band who consistently brigded the heavy metal/mainstream gap)" CCATBQFM makes it tough to defend their perceived descent from Metal to "Hard Rock" to "Rock" to maybe pop.

Thank god for Sambora's licks or that song would've been on B101.1

I agree it's definately more pop/rock ish sounding, but sometimes I just like those flakey "fun" songs. I never really considered them "metal" though, considered them "hardrock". Just my perception but I considered bands like Judas Priest, Metallica, etc. to be "metal"......and most of the hair bands fall in varying degrees of HardRock/Rock/Pop.

Gotta love Richie tho, thank gawd he doesn't have the ego of the Schon/Van Halen's otherwise him and JBJ would have been done long ago. I would imagine JBJ being the perfectionist he is (kinda like Perry) isn't one of easiest peeps to work with sometimes.

BJ was never metal. I was in HS when they came out, and nobody considered them metal. Even Lep and Motley weren't metal, just hard rock. Iron Maiden, Priest, Metallica... that was metal.

Never liked Met.

I enjoy the black ablum and the songs after that Hero Of The Day and I Disappear.

The Crue is a top 5 band of mine however. Have every note the've put out and boots.

PS: as an aside, I told el 'bato he should look into Vince for the show in Oct and he got back to me with "I'm not paying drunk Vince to show up and duff off the stage." Classic Andrewism.

I saw BJ's Unplugged the other day, and it was painful.

Aside from continuing the "This Left Feels Right" style butchering of a few BJ classics (and the 8,000th different interpretation of "Prayer '94"), it just killed me to see Richie like that. Richie is the reason I became a fan of that band; Jon's a good singer, but Richie is the band's soul and the band's balls. Without him, there's not much there besides a seasoned frontman singing some decent pop songs.

Richie might as well not have shown up...there's obviously someone onstage (one of the "extra" musicians) who's vocals sound JUST LIKE Sambora, and it was him, not Richie, singing most of the harmonies. I'm a guitarist, and I know all the chords to BJ's songs, and I don't think Richie's guitar was even up in the mix most of the time outside of a couple of solos, there are several times you see him and he's playing the wrong chords, if he's playing at all. Just a sad, sad shadow of what was once a great guitarist, it's a shame this had to be broadcast, I'm sure once he sobers up he's going to be pretty embarrassed about it.

I can only imagine how bad the taping must've been...

Regarding BJ mmmmmmmm oh wait! I mean Bon Jovi- I mostly liked them until Bounce. The heavy tracks on bounce like Undivided are great but Jon writes so many DUMB CLICHE lyrics that it just kills me. "You had me at Hello"??? PUHLEAZE. Nothing like a rock band to remind me of somebody I hate like Tom Cruise... ugh! "Joey Keys" about a retarded brother or something... I felt like I should be watching an After School Special. The guy is THE whitest musician I've ever heard. There are cut out bin bands- Hey, like Journey, who are better than Bon Jovi, yet Bon Jovi continues to be huge, especially in the UK.

This Left Feels Right was SO SO SO bad. I cannot believe that Richie didn't kick Jon's ass over that. I'd be in rehab too if I had to record stuff like that. Absolute shite. When I watched them the other night on unplugged, they even took their good slow songs and messed them up. Bed of Roses, one of the all time great Jovi tunes, was ruined by the arrangement on unplugged. I remember an older version of Unplugged with them and it was GREAT. That was years ago. What the heck happened to them?

There's another post where someone mentions how good Jon's voice is at his age... I don't agree. I think he is the most nasally, tinny singer I've ever heard and he clearly avoids the high notes these days. Richie is a better singer. Buy Stranger In This Town. Great solo record from Richie. Richie's got soul both as a singer and a guitarist. Dude, put the bottle down and get out of Jon's shadow...

Jon needs to hang it up while he has an ounce of credibility left. By the way, the guy looked so NOT into it throughout the show and his stage moves look like stuff that was edited out of old Partridge Family reruns. David Cassidy had more balls than Jon does these days. Jon flashes that phony smile and in a second it's gone. It's like a male model "Smile! Now Pout!". Ugh...
I used to really dig Bon Jovi and ever since Jon's solo record (not the Young Guns one, the Boulevard one) he's just dragged that band down.

How about some more songs like "Hey God" instead of "Captain Crash"- GOD that song had THE worst lyrics I've ever heard.
Is Jon trying to be Bruce? Sorry to go on. I just hate to see good bands go to hell.

EDIT- Holy Crap, I posted this before reading the rest of the thread... Sorry! It appears I've repeated several of your own comments. At least we agree!

Just a sad, sad shadow of what was once a great guitarist, it's a shame this had to be broadcast, I'm sure once he sobers up he's going to be pretty embarrassed about it.

I can only imagine how bad the taping must've been...

Have faith! Richie will be back, he's just hit a rough patch in his life (like we all have from time to time). Richie is a pro and I believe his best work is yet to come....sometimes it takes a downfall like he has had to really rise up again.

Go Sambora! 8)

Richie may come back, but it's not like I"d ever be able to afford to see him, with the ticket prices they're charging. Fuck that shit.
