If he gets the job, you need to allow people to speak how they feel, especially at first.
Great that you are so passionate about him, but you need to let people speak their opinion. If anyone gives an opinion of him that isn't good or what you want to hear, you pounce right on it and I was just curious.

I'm beginning to think these tribute fans are more loony than any loon could ever be! In another thread I "dared" to critique a tribute band singer he/she wanted to get the Journey gig & the OP has been going off on me every since. It sounds exactly like what this person is doing.

Jeremey is a friend of the board, so he will get preferential treatment from a lot of us, but deservedly so.

I agree w/u Lora about Perry singing. I cant put my finger on what it is exactly but it's there, no matter what he sings, or when.

Great post. Thanks.

Sure. But u missed my point ENTIRELY. This person JeremeyFanForever is not just giving Jeremey preferential treatment. He/she is FANATICAL to the point of NOT allowing ANYONE to say a negative word about Journey. Just like this Mon person is in another thread about the Mexican Journey tribute band. Seems a bit weird to me.

I suppose you could still respect their talent and tell them that you're willing to support them EXCEPT when they involve themselves with something you want to boycott. I've seen this at other boards, it's a fair way to look at things. It's not really a judgment call against the individual singer, it's a revolt against the band that hired them. And it's an individual thing. Not everybody feels the same way about things. Still, it's baffling that the band is going down this path. I can't understand why any self-respecting Journey fan would be supportive of Jon and Neal in this.

You're the one craving for attention, lady.

Otherwise, you wouldn't be taking the same topic (WHERE YOU FUCKED UP, BTW) everywhere, seeking for approval.

With your post count, you should be way past that. :)

HOTS yes, I'd say she can be a bit like that. PROPERRY is much more reasonable. I like her a lot. She's just a nice lady w/nothing bad to say about anyone. I could use some of that :-)

Some of the wigglers are fanatical. I wonder if these guys like fans like that. Or they prefer people who support them but don't worship at their altar. I'd be a bit scared of these kinds of people.

Uh, oh. As far as I can read I'm the only person posting on this thread with Jeremey in my signature. But I'm not JeremeyFanForever. I'm a pretty low-key person. If it's me that is "NOT allowing ANYONE to say a negative word about Journey." please quote me so I can see where you're talking about. If it's someone else, please quote them, so I can put my mind at ease. I'm honestly confused. :)

He has an amazing voice, but to some of the clips I listened to he seems to over do it for me at times.

None the less, no offense to the potential new guy, I won't be going to see your shows, the JSS screw job did me in.

For me, it is not just about the music. It is about whether or not the singer/musician reaches me. Moves me. Makes me feel. When I listen to Steve Perry's voice, it literally alters my brain chemestry and takes me to that place. I can listen to someone else sing the very same song, the very same notes and.....nothing. Journey seems to want to play to people who don't know or care who is singing as long as they get close to the original sound. They will probably do just fine. I hear ya...hitting the notes is one thing but, then there's phrasing, delivery, the singer's connection with the audience, etc. that are the "intangibles" which are unique to each vocalist. Perry was unique in these intangibles. Perhaps it was just that he happened to be the singer at the time the songs became hits...who knows.

All I know is, SP's voice is the voice of the band. Always has been. The bigger issue here is protecting Journey's legacy. The band needs to realize that they are rather important in R&R history and that they shouldn't "water down" thier legacy by shuffling in too many singers / drummers, etc. They should call it a day and leave future R&R historians to judge the magnitude of their contributions to the genre.

Neal, JC, RV...start a new band. Turn a "new" page here.

It's the right thing to do.

Lora, I'll have to reread my post but I think I was talking about people who were bagging someone as a tribute band singer as opposed to another singer (ie, retired Gap singer, bar band singer, ex-hair band dude or whatever)...The point I was making was that some as a whole seemed to think that the tribute "stigma" was too much to overcome, and the point I tried to make was why is it necessarily a BAD thing if someone can step in, know the material, sing any song the band throws at them, and have the voice conditioned to do it on a regular basis. Immediately. Like a gig tomorrow. I would think that would be a good thing...I didn't mean that if you didn't like me or other singers you were being fickle. I hope that's not how I came across. I'm just getting a little turned off about the whole "tribute" slagging. But you know what - What moves some people doesn't move others. You can't please everyone all of the time. I didn't mean to call you fickle or lump you in with anything like that.

the "Gap singer" you speak of has cut 2 cd's of his own plus 2 and an ep and dvd with Journey. And Andrew calls his Tall Stories effort one of the best melodic rock cd's. So how about you stop referring to him as that. And JSS's catalog is way bigger than that. Not sure if any of your other comments refer to him. Seems you don't want to be "slagged" but your very comments do the same to Steve Augeri.

Sorry you see it that way. I didn't mean to be disrespectful, but the point I was trying to make was not to slag Stevie A's job, but to point out that he was in fact retired from the music business when he was hired by Journey. Sorry to have confused my point. In no way am I slagging him. Maybe using the phrase "retired singer" is a better way to convey my misunderstanding as why a "tribute" singer who knows the song is a no-no versus someone who has a different background.

Well, I've been posting on this forum for a long time, 99% of the time during which I was under no consideration for the lead singer of Journey. I've cut back posting here, but only because it is too difficult to take things I say sincerely and place them out of context. Some people thrill on that sort of thing. Just because I'm a poster in this community doesn't mean I'm randomly attacking people who don't like me or want to see me as the lead singer of Journey. My general comments have been the disparity between people who are seen as being "tribute singers" versus people who sing other songs. I'm getting a creepy feeling of deja vu here, so once again, I guess I'll go sit in the corner by myself again.

If you read this board often, you know that Jeremey never denigrates fellow singers. When he referred to Augeri as the "Gap singer", he was obviously referring to what the bashers call Augeri in here.

No reason for Jeremey to use the same terms as the bashers. Especially when his point was that he was being slagged for being a tribute band singer. That's all I was pointing out to him. He may be the greatest thing since Perry to capture the legacy sound, but coming on the boards and making comments about fickle fans, and being "made" are not going to win anyone on the fence over. Trying to set alot of us straight over on BT at the beginning was a big strike by JSS. Maybe Jeremey should make note and sit back and wait for his fate to be decided. I think that many might consider that more respectable.

The only reason I stayed off the boards was because my words could be misinterpreted which is exactly what has happened again when I stepped in to try to clarify a few things. Don't forget, I also have a big say in how my "fate" is decided, but with that being said, I'll disappear again...So long, Melodicrock friends!!
