Perry lets everyone down by not recording, not touring and Schon still makes our hearts beat faster while we watch him in awe night after night.

Neal Schon is a true god on the electric guitar. I've seen him perform with Journey 10 x now since he decided to continue the Journey, it doesn't matter which singer stands beside him, he rules the stage, He's the best and I can't get enough.

I'm sick of hearing people complaining all the time that Perry has "let everyone down" just because he is not doing what they think he should be doing for them! He was fired by the Jon & Neal from Journey, He has recorded music with other musicians, since then, and has every right to do whatever he wants with his life.

And it hugely matters to me which singer is on the stage, it would HAVE to be Steve Perry for me to support Journey. I wouldn't say Neal Schon ruled the stage for me, it was the "magical three" ( Perry, Cain, & Schon) that co-wrote all that great music together, and the musicianship skills from the "whole band", along with Perry's exceptional voice that made that band SO FANTASTIC together!!!!!!!!!!

The slams on JC had me choking! What a great read! Loved it! The most ACCURATE summary I've ever read. Personalities aside - when you boil it down to the work - the ART - Perry worked his craft but all they can do now is crap.

True, and he's probably also too classy to say what he might really think.

SS has said that he owes a great deal to SP for teaching him how to play for a singer. I think that speaks volumes.

Yup...and going back to something you said in an earlier post...if Journey was a giant dingleberry, Neal and Friga were ass hairs and Perry was "the shit."   I've always said Perry was "the shit" but now it makes PERFECT sense!!! 8)

Without a doubt. The difficult thing to recognize is that a band is ultimately a TEAM effort BUT any team needs a great leader to rally around. To be truly successful they couldn't rally around Neal then any more than they can now. They rallied around SP. Yes - he was a maniacal little bastard but you can't argue with the results.

Saint John- Excellent ! The band was true to itself when Perry was there because he demanded quality and wanted something to be proud of in the future. He can look back at his years and just how big the band was in those days. What it is today is a shadow of its former greatness. Sorry, I just can't go to see these guys anymore.

Yep, and I'm sure the guys thought SP was a pain in the ass control freak, but look at the results. To be successful, you have to work hard and get it right. There was no better sounding live band around. They still sound good live though.

True, but if he was indeed a bastard at least he eventually realized that and addressed it by apologizing both in words and in song. The other two, however.... 'Fro is still an egotistical midget bastard who seems to think only with his dick, and 'Friga is a mean-spirited two-faced little befrocked man with his lips locked on 'Fro's prong tighter than a barnacle to the bottom of a boat!!

Saint John wrote:Perry joined Journey and the impact was immediate. The commercial success that had eluded them for years was suddenly there. They had found the missing component, his voice. As they grew in popularity, they began to tour relentlessly. The voice, along with Neal Schon's guitar, and a new transgender keyboardist made them a household name. Before too long, they were the dominant band of the era. They toured nonstop to full stadiums. However, it came with a price. The road can be tough, and it was. Perry's voice changed, and the rigors of the road and the indulgences it presents can be tough on a man looking to reform. After giving all he had, he deemed it time for a rest. After a 10 year layoff he attempted a comeback to the band HE made famous. Unfortunately, he decided for whatever reasons, health or emotional, or a combination of the two, that it was time his Journey ended. Having given all he could and been financially prudent enough to step away, he did.

Very accurate and well worded,SJ.Nice.
I could easily use this as a synopsis of my book (minus the "transgender keyboardist" remark,of course.. ).

As for the topic title,I can't play the Perry vs Schon match.Apples and oranges. Both brilliant artists, even better together.
But if I'd have to choose between the two...D'oh! :P

Maybe the question is: what's right about it?

Personally, I don't care what someone's preference/inclination/pre-disposition is HOWEVER I don't have a problem saying that I find it entirely WRONG for ME. It may be OK for you or aomeone else and that's fine - go ahead and promote it all you want BUT don't dare deny someone else the voice to oppose it.

No one is denying anyone anything, but instead of criticizing the man for being an asshole, another asshole has to say, "oh, well, he's gay too". Bash all you want, but don't expect others to sit by and take it.

And if JC is gay, I doubt that calling him gay would be an insult.

Um yep. And it's not ignorance, it's personal choice. I choose to believe that something is wrong with it, and so does the majority of society.

So now a perfectly "on topic" thread about the musical meshes and egocentric differences between Schon and Perry has turned into a discussion about the differences between the wee wee and the pooh pooh?
