OT:Ever Bought An Album Based Just On The Cover?

Postby mikemarrs » Fri Jul 13, 2007 9:10 pm

I got into music at a very early age.i had bikes and video games but i never really played with toys because i was always busy listening to records or watching televsion.i remember going to a K-mart and i think i was around seven or so and i saw the loverboy-get lucky album, lol.i know its silly but for some reason i had to have that damn album.so my brother buys it and tells me it better be good.we jammed to that thing for at least a good year until we saw the 'quiet riot metal health' i really had to have that one.once my brother bought metal health he started getting really heavy into the metal scene.i stayed with stuff like journey, styx, boston, etc. and he went into stuff like judas priest, iron maiden, motley crue, etc.

Yup. The only album (I think) that I ever did that for was a band called Paradise Lost. Couple of good songs ESPECIALLY Yearn For Change, but sure as HELL not worth the $15 I paid for it.

First album I ever bought with my own cash..(VERY early 80's) was The Grand Illusion by Styx. Always thought that cover was cool as hell if that helps any... Even though I knew the music. The only time I'm thankful for older siblings.

CANDY O by the CARS. Bought it the day it came out, and hadn't heard a single song on it.

AS a young man I really appreciated the...umm...artwork. Album actually turned out to be good.

On a related note, I bought the first VAN HALEN album the week it was released because I saw Gene Simmons was listed in the liner notes. That purchase turned out ok for me too!

For me it was Van Halen's 1984. I loved VH back then (still do), and that cover was just so enticing I had to have it. Glad I wasn't disappointed, but I don't do that any more. The music is the most important thing.

 Can't believe you've mentioned that band.I thought no Journey fan would know that one!
They were big in Europe,I was into them in the '90,in my Metallica phase (the Black Album). Not sure if I could listen to them again...The only ones I still love are Metallica.

Was Paradise Lost famous in the US at all?

On topic...Although I had a copy of Toto's 'Absolutely Live' album,I bought the original solely for the cover.I love all of it,inside and out.

I bought this for my dad as a joke gift one year. He was probably in his 60's at the time. He got a kick out of it.

Didn't buy it for the cover but for the gag gift aspect....
My dad asked me about 10 years ago "So what's goin' on with these Hootie and the Goldfish". SO...for his b-day I bought him the "Cracked Rearview" cd...LAUGHED HIS ASS OFF.
