Don't Stop!

Postby Crazie Scarab » Thu Jul 12, 2007 1:32 pm

Just heard the Sopranos commercial for about the tenth time today and I just wanted to remind everyone to "Don't Stop!" I guess they let "Believin'" be cut out of the song? Makes sense. Afterall, there is nothing left to believe in.

Is it not a common thing in the states for a band to get their music played on things such as this? an honest enquiry from me that all? :-)

It's not common for Journey. They didn't give out permission to do so for a long time. As I recall there was an article I transcribed at one point about this subject, darned if I can remember which one now. But the gist of it was they didn't want their songs leaving their control, selling things they didn't believe in. Good case in point, the Eye of the Tiger song got bastardized for some fast food thing... I think the guys were basically trying to save their songs from things of that nature.

Exactly. It all depends on which band/artist is in question.
For Journey, no it's not common. You almost never see/hear their stuff showing up, so when it does, there's probably a damn good reason for it. Check out any of the thousands of 80s compilation CDs there are out there - you won't find Journey on any of them.

Then you have guys like Pete Townshend, who will sell off their material at the mere drop of a nickel. I grew up with The Who, and I seriously wish he would knock that shit off. All my fond memories are being sullied by commercials for prescription allergy medication and Nissan tent sales.

Wasn't it Mr. Perry that said, "There are just some things you need to leave sacred."?

I am a sucker for these albums, and believe me Journey are all over them! American Heartbeat, American Anthems, More than a feeling to name three......

Hmmmm, I wonder what the difference is. There are never any Journey songs on those compilation CDs here but there are over there, and those CDs and DVDs of bootleg concerts show up from there rather than here. I'm thinking maybe it must have something to do with some copyright or publishing laws? Image

The live versions of the song end with "Don't Stop"

I think the difference is that over here - Journey are perceived as AOR gods, whose name will help shift these albums, as, prior to the UK tours, Journey had an air of mystery and were legendary. Im not saying they have lost that, but its for that same reason that Kansas, Mr Mister and Toto apear on these albums. What bugs me is the laziness of the compilers, TRY some different songs! (Mind you, i will be in Vegas in September and cannot wait to buy loads of CDs.)

When I was a kid, I had a 'compilation' record. Good ole' K-Tel... I remember it had "Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" on it. I absolutely HATED that song then. My, how things change...

Journey, to their credit, never authorized songs on those miserable BS compilation discs. I have a recorded Herbert interview where he says, live on radio, "we don't lend our good name to shit sales pariahs." The DJ gulped and I was forever hooked on the Journey mystery then. In fact, I modeled myself and my attitude after Herbie. I loved him and thought his brazen honest attitude was one to emulate.

I will never forget that.

I LOVE Herbie. to me, he is God.
