A Statement from Michael Anthony

Postby Trailblazer » Wed Aug 22, 2007 8:38 am

The following has been been posted on www.madanthonycafe.com:

Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony has released the following update:

"I want to thank everyone for all the support you've shown me during the past months. It's all been pretty crazy, and I just wanted to bring you all up to speed.

"A lot of you have been asking about the upcoming VAN HALEN tour and my response to it. It's not that I'm not touring with VAN HALEN because I'm going out with Sammy [Hagar; former VAN HALEN frontman]. I'm going out with Sammy because I was not invited to do the VH tour. Sammy told me that if I was asked to be part of the VH tour and decided to do it, it would be totally cool, and it would not tarnish our friendship in the least!! Well, it's not to be, and life goes on. I'll still be out there with Sam, and I can't wait to do some partying with all of you.

"One last note from myself to all the VAN HALEN fans out there who will be attending their shows... Wolfgang [Van Halen, new VAN HALEN bassist and Eddie Van Halen's son] is a great kid, so don't judge him too harshly. I'm sure he'll do just fine!!"

Hats off to you, Mikey, for your display of integrity and class.

Thanks Mike but we got "up to speed" when Van Halen did their press confrence.

We know that Mike and you didn't get invited because you betrayed and pissed off your old boss.

Sammy also lied when he said VH didn't play Summer Nights since the first 10 shows of the tour.

Oh what a load of horseshit....rothheads can dish it out but they can't take it. If I had a nickel for every sammy statement that could maybe, if you were half drunk and looped out on crystal meth, be misconstrued into something that was either classless or betrayal...

....there would be 1000 DLR infractions that were each 100 times worse than what you and your imagination thought Sammy said.

What Sammy was driving at was the transtrem tremolo on EVH's steinberger guitar that he used exclusively on both Summer Nights and Get Up. The tremolo system itself, is extremely difficult to use from a guitarist perspective....and most guitarists never bother with the transposition function of the tremolo....EVH utilized it very significantly during Summer Nights...and it made it very difficult to play live. There have been several admissions by EVH himself, that he's fucked up the song plenty of times live.....because he would come out of, say the bridge, in the wrong key.

What Sammy was talking about was simply the fact that they stopped playing the song because of it. WHICH IS TRUE The fact that they played it on the OU812 tour doesn't seem like a lie to me, but merely an oversight. Did you remember every semi-reoccuring 5 minute segment of a few-month period of work in 1989? I certainly dont.....expecting sammy to remember a few nights in 89 that they did play that song is rediculous....and chalking it up to lies, is ludicrous!!!

The fact of the matter is that...is that there's something else at play....The above Sam & Mikey tour wasn't the reason EVH was pissed at Mike....no one knows why! The sam and mike tour happened AFTER the 2004 reunion....and there was CLEARLY bad blood then, between EVH and Mike....as evidenced by the fact that mike had to basically sign away any claim to VH then, in order to be a part of the reuinion.

ugh, Rothheads always trying to revise history as per their own delusions!

Fucking Fagar Fans.

If MA helped write all of the VH songs then he is really, really stupid for signing away his rights. He would have been set for life, his daughters would have been set for life and his future grand kids. He would have made royalties for every VH tour including 04 if he chose not to sign away his rights and not tour with the band and this years tour. Plus everytime a VH song gets played anywhere in the world, radio,TV,concerts. There is no way he helped write any VH songs.

I'm not so sure you know what you're talking about...

AFAIK, What Michael Anthony signed off on was any FUTURE claim to Van Halen....leaving him to still reap benefits of anything prior to 04, including rights on album sales, etc. but you know what? Only Mike knows for sure...why dont you leave that to him and stick to what you think you know about...

Correction: Mike didn't get invited because his "former boss" turned into a drunken, drug addicted, mean-spirited tyrant.

I don't THINK I know I KNOW I know. Why do you think MA's credits are disapearing from the CD's. Go buy a new copy of 1984.

What do you think future claims to Van Halen means?

He got cancer because he smoked. Valerie divorced him because of the drinking, smoking, drugging and God only know what else. He used crack cocaine and crystal meth. These were all choices he made. And you know what, the fool still smokes!! His marriage disintegrated, the band became dysfunctional and still he didn't seek help. Do you really know for a fact that he is sober?

Whats your point?

Admitting to yourself, let alone the whole world, that you need help and check into a rehab is a huge step. He can't go back and change what he did.

What was your point in bringing it up in the first place? Cut him some slack because he had cancer??? Unfortunately, a lot of people are ill with cancer, but deal with it without being mean and spiteful. This thread started with a statement made by MA on his website to his fans. This debate is finished as far as I am concerned. If you want to continue repeating yourself, be my guest.

And what have you been doing with Michael and Sammy? I have no problem with Van Halen fans. Why would you have issues with people who prefer The Other Half over Van Halen? I personally think Mike is much better off with Sammy. I certainly haven't said anything about VH that isn't common knowledge. You made some pretty derogative posts about EVH yourself, so don't tell me about bashing! This needs to cease and desist immediately!

Love to Mikey, but the one who shines in all of this is Hagar.

What a dude, he clearly wanted this for Michael.

Every time MA opens his mouth, I have to recognize him as one of the greatest men to surf through the music biz.
Even if I don't agree 100% with what he says
After all, it was him and Hagar who decided to go and make "The Other Half" after the bros decided to stop the tour because of many factors: Eddie was so drunk , an angry man, Alex could not drag the name forward and be the foremost character, Sammy had a fight with Eddie and Michael sided with Sammy.
This made Eddie an even angrier man. This is history, for what's right or wrong.
But then again if you ask me an opinion, back then I would have standed for Sammy and Mike judging by the bros' attitude. Then now choices are made and it seems Eddie isn't still able to forgive that situation and carry on. Unfortunately I must add.
Anyway, life goes on, here's hoping this "new" VH can carry on just enough for me to see them here in Europe

VHRoth, you're doing a great job in looking like a Van Halen fan among a lot of people trying to bash the fuck out of Eddie.

It's disingenous to suggest that 'a lot of people deal with cancer without being mean spirited blah blah'......a LOT of people aren't famous musos who are scrutinised and criticised from every angle.....he ain't perfect by any stretch, but a marriage breakup and cancer will fuck anyone over. And like he's the only muso ever to have a problem with drink and drugs.....fantastic achievement to overcome it.

And no-one knows what's its like until they've been there.

Good luck to them all, and MA and EVH have a lot of good history and they don't owe each other a thing.....you all are supposed to be Van Halen fans, many of you who have been moaning like fuck for a VH/DLR reunion for years.....now you've got it, you still aren't fucking happy.

The Anthony message board is up and going for those who hate Edward.....

Get over the bullshit and be happy, VH are back with Roth and the tickets are selling FAST!! Whoo - Hooo!!!!!!!

PLEASE come to Australia, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
