i'm surprised that other bands who are just as poplular don't have nearly as many topics started in their sections-examples:
kiss: 115 topics
rush: 75 topics
ac/dc: ONLY 29 topics!!!
why does journey have WAY MORE topics started than other bands who are just as popular?

Because we all react to Journey like jilted lovers. At the height of our love affair with the group, we were left standing in the cold and we miss how we felt back then.

Well, that and the fact that Journey's music is better than those other groups.

There are Nat'l treasures. Perry ,Tyler and probably at this point Jon Bon Jovi come to mind. The circumstances of Perry leaving and now JSS are revolting. Many on here never even attended the 80's concerts because the were under 10-15 or not born. Continually they argue and put up opinions that they have NO clue about. Therefore ,all the posts. Journey was a HUGE band 77-83 ,86, and finally 96. Now you can call it whatever you want.

The music is more enduring.

Postby StoneCold » Sun Sep 02, 2007 12:31 pm

.

1. Journey's hits were MONSTER HITS.

2. They changed with the times where other bands didn't. (KISS 70's, 80's and 90's sounds the same to me)

3. They kept releasing albums after Perry left. Some will say that's not a good move but I disagree.

Releasing 3 Augeri fronted albums kept the fans around (even fans that don't like Augeri).

True, the Generations cd leaves A LOT to be desired.

4. Almost ALL their Perry fronted music is great. It's hard to find a bad song on any Perry fronted Journey album.

1. Agree (sort of). Yes, Rush has also had some great songs. But their appeal isn't as widespread since they rarely sing about love and relationships. That's not a bad thing in and of itself. That's part of makes Rush what they are.

But it speaks to the post of why Journey gets more posts (more popular). Journey has sustained a larger fan base for those very reasons.

2. Agree
3. Moot - Having the same people in the band doesn't make much difference as long as the music's good. In Rush's case, the music IS good so this point is moot. Augeri did put out some good stuff with Journey, unfortunately it will always be compared with the hits from before.

4. Disagree. Rush's albums were great up until "Presto". They came back strong with "Roll The Bones and Counterparts" but dropped the ball on "Test For Echo" and "Vapor Trails". Presto, TFE and VP have a couple good songs but some not so good stuff too.

Feedback is a great cover album and the new one "Snakes And Arrows" is good.

Mainly its point #1. Rush appeals on an intellectual and musicianship level. Journey's appeal is on emotional level so it attracts more people. Journey is "feel good music".

It's funny to see how many people differ on opinions with VT. I thought it was a GREAT album. Volume could've been brought down a notch or two but all in all...an AWESOME comeback album. A LOT of emotion from Neil after all the shit he had to deal with outside of "music world".
Presto....Decent album but overshadowed by Hold Your Fire and Roll The Bones. One of my favorite Rush songs is still Available Light.

On Presto, "The Pass" is my favorite. It's as good as anything on HYF. "Availablel Light" is another good one as well.

I'll have to relisten to VP. What did you think of Test For Echo?

T4E was a good album...but it sounded/looked like they were losing their steam. Saw 'em twice in Houston on that tour....it just didn't seem like the magic was there like it is now. After almost 30 years...I guess it tends to do that....I don't know...I'm 27.

In the Rush forum I read a comment that rang true.

When Rush makes good stuff its really good but their misses are pretty crappy.

Most of their songs are great. Some are outstanding, "Bravado" off "Roll The Bones.

Then on some of the albums I mentioned before, there are songs I can't even get through.

They'll always be one of my favorite bands though.

Best intro in a song ever, first two seconds of "Cold Fire".

Maybe it's because Journey appealed to women as much as men. Not as many women are into Rush. Women board members make up a very big part of this forum. I think that helps. But the one thing that is over the top it that Journey has more topics and posts than all the rest combined.

Notice I said appealed. They aren't appealing to anyone right now.

We're all forgetting one special thing about Journey that doesn't exist in the other bands mentioned.

Emotional connection to the music.

Journey crafted songs that resonated with its fans on a deeper level than most bands do or have since. Say what you want about Journey, but they were unique in that area.

Rush effin' rocks. Love their stuff. But they don't create emotional music. It's the kind of music you raise your fist to. A kick ass kind of energy which is very different than Journey's.

hmmmmmmm, you must not have heard songs like mystic rhythms, ghost of a chance, time stand still, tai shan, distant early warning, marathon-i would consider NONE of these songs either fist raising nor ass kicking-more like EMOTIONAL, hypnotic, and dreamy
