Found this site again today-

http://www.champ-em.com/download.htm

Just take your time to look and download the latest FULL version.

Obviously these don't compete with the new pc games, but if you want a really good pc version of a old classic, Champ are the ones. Amazing. Enjoy.

Has anyone else downloaded any of these? Seriously, if you are a fan of old school stuff like Galaga, Kong, Centepede, Kong, etc..check these out. Free fast downloads.
If you are/were a fan of Galaga, you have to check out GALAGON. Make sure you get the latest full version as the old one bites. Granted, the latest is a few years old, but it's just like the arcade style. Fills up the whole screen. Nost just part of a web page. Play as much as you want. Looks amazing.

I always liked Asteroids, but I don't have a joystick. Would be fun though.

While a joystick is the best way to play.. :P You don't need one, so don't let that be a reason not to.
Seriously, if you download the latest full release versions of these games. Amazing. They fill up the whole screen and look exactly like the arcade. Again, if you are a old school fan of Donkey Kong, Galaga, Asteroids, Centipede, Space Invaders, etc..check them out. Very small quick downloads. Games play without problems if you download the latest full versions.
This company has come so far since they first came out. Not only with given the fact that now the LATEST FULL VERSIONS are free, but if for the heck of it you download one of their older versions, you will see how far they have come.

Defender. That was my favorite. What a great game that was.

My favorite video game of all time was "Super Metroid", one of the first games to come out for the Super Nintendo back in the early 90s.

Eh, yeah, I think I used to get into this a bit. I had a copy of MAME and a bunch of games....I even had the Journey game.

But, it gets old real fast. There are only so many times you can play something like Defender on a PC before you realize that it really sucks on a PC (or home console) and you need the full blown machine with all of the buttons in the right spots to make it worthy of much time. Some games like "Discs of Tron" or "Sinistar" are basicaly impossible to emulate on a PC anyway, because of the controls. Basic games like PacMan, where all you do is steer a character around the screen are OK...But, I was always into Defender/Stargate, Sinistar (Geez, the sound on that was AWESOME in the arcade), Joust (which I heard was going to be turned into a MOVIE - LOL), and games like that which I do not feel emulate very well at all.

In the early 90's I sorta lost interest in video games in general. If I had my choice now, I'd play Resident Evil 4 (the Wii edition is AWESOME) before any emulated classic arcade game.

Mame32 is the way to go. Finding the game roms can be a bit tricky but worth it because when youi play with mame it is the real arcade version. Mame emulates the hardware that was inside of the machines. When you play Pac-Man it is Pac-Man. Not some mashed up clone. Looks exact sounds exact and even the patterns work because its the real deal... Mame32 can be a bit of a headache to setup but if you like old games it is worth it. I must have like.... 2 gigs worth of mame roms and let me remind you that the games back then were time by todays standards. Pac-Man is like 32k. I have sent text emails bigger than that....

Karate Champ, Yier Kung Fu, Kung Fu Master, Ring King, the Punchouts, The baseball game with the pitcher and batter in the side screen, Star Wars with the space fighter steering wheel, Street Fighter II, the football game where you throw little footballs as hard as you can through a hole and the faster you throw it the more yards you get and the old-school pinball-like mechanical baseball games. And a nice shooting gallery with an old west theme.

Show me an arcade with those and I might actually die of old age in there.

There are still some classic arcades around! The mother of all of them is Funspot in New Hampshire, which is now calling it the The American Classic Arcade Museum:
http://www.funspotnh.com/
Click 'Classic Games', which takes you to:
http://www.classicarcademuseum.org/
This also lists the games there:
http://arcadelocations.classicgaming.ga ... e=nhweifun
They even have the games arranged in the room by manufacturer. I've yet to make it to this place, but I plan to very soon. I think the only thing missing that I remember would be the smell of fresh carpet on the floor & walls, and the music of the time. LOL. Also many arcades were very dark back then (which I liked). And some had the volumes of the games turned up, so walking in and hearing all the games was cool, something you can hear here http://arcade.hofle.com

Remember how busy the arcades would be? Remember how people would gather around a game and just watch someone play? And there would be lines to play. Remember putting quarters in line up against the marque glass to show you were in line to play?

Definately check this out!:
http://www.cinemarcade.com/arcade84.html

There are also people that have their own personal arcades in their finished basements, etc. that will let the public come play if you make an appointment.

Hershey Park has quite a few classic games:
http://arcadelocations.classicgaming.ga ... e=paherhet

Cedar Point had a bunch when I went in 2001, including many mechanical games from the early 70's, but they've since closed the smaller arcade there that had some of the classics, and I think made the large arcade smaller (?), so I think they got rid of most of the classic games. The mechanical ones are very hard to keep working also.

Also, there's a show every year called Philly Classic that is nothing but buying/selling/trading classic games. Plus they have an arcade set up where you can play, and have guest speakers.

If you are a old school Mario fan, there are some Mario Freeware and clone games here. Gotta' search and try to find the good ones. The larger file ones are pretty cool for free pc games.

I've got a CD called Williams Arcade Classics. It has Bubbles, Defender, Defender II, Joust, Robotron and Sinistar on it. The CD is pretty old. Just last night I made a new installer for it because it wouldn't even work on NT based pc's like XP and Vista. I pruned out all the BS files and what was left equated to 8MB. LOL The games are great though. I'm going to do some more work on that installer and then I'll post it on Megaupload if anyone is interested.

I was playing Mario XP, and did so even though it's a VERY small game on the computer. Anyway, when I got to a part of the second stage and was killing one of the turtles, it's shell and me got caught like as if you were plaing pinball and your ball kept bouncing of the three bands over and over. Instead of killing me like what happens when the shell comes back and hits you...EVERY TIME IT HIT ME I GOT ANOTHER LIFE!!!!! WHEN IT WAS FINALLY DONE, I HAD 91 LIVES!!!!! :P :P :P

Anyway, I have a question for the computer brainers around here. I am on dial up. So when I am going to play a game on my computer that I downloaded, I close everything out so my RAM is pretty high.
Now, a couple of questions. When you play a game on the computer, should the CPU usage be pretty high. If so, is it ok for the CPU usage to be high? Is it ok for it to be high for a long period of time? The games run fine with no sluggishness at all.
I have no hickups when playing the games at all. I am usually just playing stuff like Mario, Kong, Galaga, etc...
I just want to know if it's normal for the cpu to be high, and if it's ok for it to run high for a long time if the game is running fine?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

I have been searching around the internet trying to get an answer about the CPU. Just and FYI, my CPU usage is low when not playing the games, so I know it's fine normally.
Anyway, not really finding a specific answer yet. Actually seeing some varying answers.
I found a couple good techy sites and they are making it sound like the CPU usage would be high when playing a game.
So I guess my next question would be if it's ok on the computer to run the CPU usage high for a long time..overheating?
Maybe this would be bad if it was doing this for something that is shouldn't be doing it for?

It's totally fine for your cpu usage to be at 100%. As long as the cpu is cooled properly, it can run like that for years and years.

Again, if you are/were a fan of Galaga download this below. Looks and acts just like it. My favorite arcade game of all time.
I just got 45,000 playing on the keyboard. Having the double ship and hitting everything in the first challenge stage and getting 10,000 bonus helps.

Download this one. It's the last one on the bottom.
