I'm sure he could still be great. To paraphrase what EVH said one time:

"Playing guitar is like riding a bike and fucking. You never forget how to do it."

It saddens me to see people waste talent that I'd kill for.
1) Variety Tonight
2) Don't Let Him Go
3) That song that's on The Goonies soundtrack (dunno what record it's from, can't remember what it's called but it's kick-ass)
That would be..."Wherever You're Goin' (It's Alright)" ..... To my knowledge it only appeared on the soundtrack and not on one of their original albums.

Blazin Your Own Trail Again
I've opened doors, I've opened minds
I've opened yours a thousand times
As I wait for you

I've fought the battle from the start
I've opened sores inside my heart
It bleeds without remorse

The ballad of the Illinois opry is cool, BOTRA is possibly the best ever but I'd go as far to say the whole new album perks my pecker bigtime  Find your own way home is a massive track to have so late in their career...nothin' but good vibes to REO 8)

You guys will love this... So, I am getting back in my car today feeling pretty good as I jsut heard the favorite Foreigner song I listed yesterday..anyway, I am getting back in my car. Turn on the radio. Keep On Loving You, by REO of course, is just ending. The DJ says love that song. Journey is great. Steve Perry sounds great on that song. The other DJ says, that was REO not Journey, but yeah, Kevin and Steve sound a lot alike, I could see where thought that was Journey.
  :?

Give me a break. Cronin and Perry sound nothing like each other and the music in general sounds nothing alike, despite the fact that it's rock 'n' roll. Those guys should be ashamed to work at a classic rock station and not know the difference between the two bands.

Hm... love all eras of REO

A very underrated pick would be "Any Kind of Love" from the R.E.O. album, an Eagles-ish acoustic country-rock feel that reminds me of Take it Easy... great pop song
Roll With the Changes
Find Your Own Way Home is one of REOs finest ever
Time for me to Fly
Golden Country
Say You Love me or Say Goodnight
Keep Pushin
Only The Strong Survive
Can't Fight This Feeling (like this song much more than Keep On Loving You)
I Needed To Fall

As with Journey, Styx etc etc... I have no problem with embracing all sides of a band's sound and I love a good ballad just as much as I love a good rocker. I think some people just accept these kind of attitudes because it's fashionable to do so, kind of like choosing between Van Halen and Van Hagar.. I know some people only like to rock or only like very accessible AOR stuff, I understand that... but what kills me is when people refuse to see a band like REO in concert because Richrath isn't there anymore or because they play more than a few ballads per set (while still playing a number of great rockers). My eye doctor is a huge REO fan and he's kind of anti-80s REO and I finally convinced him to see REO with me and he was pleasantly surprised with how much they rocked.

I'll go with the live version of "Roll With the Changes" that they did in 1984-85 on the "Wheels are Turnin'" tour. They do the first two verses acoustically (no piano, just acoustic guitar and vocals), then crank into the keyboard at the start of the song and do the whole song like it was on the album.

First time I heard it in concert, we were bitchin' because we thought they were ONLY doing the thing acoustically. When they ripped into the opening piano, we changed our tune and said it was the greatest version we'd ever heard. I'll have to pull out my bootlegs of that tour and crank that up. Great stuff!

Wish we could offer up a John Mayer and Maroon 5 to God to send SRV back!

We'd get the better end of that trade.
