OT: Why isn't there more black rockers?

Postby texafana » Thu Oct 25, 2007 12:46 am

Nothing racial here, I hope it stays that way. :) Perhaps I'm wrong, but history shows us that rock was pretty much invented by black musicians. I find it strange that rock evolved today to be primarily played by whites. Why don't we see more black musicians today rocking? Some of the best rockers ever were black.

That's an interesting question. There are several black melodic rockers I can think of, but you are right -- not as many as you would think, especially today. If I had to guess, I think their musical tastes just gravitated elsewhere, like soul, jazz, R&B and Hip-Hop.

You are right,I think many black musicians have lost there way,Rap and hip hop has taken over. It really sucks, just imagine how much good music that could be coming out. There is this one song i hate, the words are "Im goin na buy ya a drank I got money in the bank" how fucking creative is that

I always thought this was a rockin' song by Living Colour - Cult of Personality. May have been a one hit wonder though. I didn't keep up with them.

In light of so many 'non-rock' bands being in the RnRHoF, what about Prince? Should he be there? Is he 'rock'?
And what about 'Mother's Finest'? Used to listen to them back in high school. They rocked pretty hard.

Haven't any of you watched "The Chappell Show"? All white people like guitars, Mexicans like salsa beat with vocals thrown in, and all blacks like is a beat! Get with the program! :^)

Man, I saw Sevendust in concert in 2003 and they were great!!! Awesome live show!!! Lejon does put on quite the show. Anyone catch Jada Pinkett Smith last year on OzzFest with her Heavy Metal band? Ive heard mixed reviews about it but it was cool to find out that she is such a huge fan of metal.

"Anyone catch Jada Pinkett Smith last year on OzzFest with her Heavy Metal band?" The videos from that band are awesome. I douted Pinkett at first, but she's a rocker!! Contrary to her husband. ;)
