I'm all for getting back on the music map, but 6 million CDs? Are you kidding me?

Hearing your vocal here and knowing of Journey's aim to return to their signature sound, I'm very surprised that your joining the band fell through. I'm wondering if they heard your version and am more curious than ever as to what Neal's "deal breaker" might have been.

Now for an idea for Journey about the future for success:
1) Start writing lyrics about "peoples lives" again...I do not want to hear any lyrics about church or wars or freedom...it makes the music kind of dull.

Yeah, Jeremey would have fit what they were looking for perfectly. What the FUCK happened? Now I'm PISSED.

I agree with both Liquid drummer and Jeremey...
I like Jeremey's lyrics better, even though I understand the reason why the original lyrics were chosen in the first place.
That sure was exciting listening to the different vocal styles of Jeff and Jeremey on the same song. You are both tremendous vocalists. The demo also proves Journey can still rock it out with whoever ends up as lead singer.
Now for an idea for Journey about the future for success:
1) Start writing lyrics about "peoples lives" again...I do not want to hear any lyrics about church or wars or freedom...it makes the music kind of dull.
2) I hope we have a lead singer whose voice is as powerful as JSS or Jeremey's voices. That is key to sell any Journey record.
3) Promote yourselves on TV. Whether its doing the daytime or evening talk show circut. Performing on MTV again, like TRL.
***Open with DSB then play an original tune.
4) Rock it out with new music..Lots of piano and gutiar riffs..as you guys have always done...We want a CD that has a ton of "pop" rock and a few ballads.
There is a certain bar I go to every few weeks that has an acoustic guitarist. Everytime I am there, I request DSB. The thing is at this bar, most people do not pay attention to the acoustic guy. The music he plays is like the backround music and everyone really is not paying attention and just being social. But as soon as he starts singing DSB, the entire bar goes nuts! Literally...everyone is singing and shouting at the top of their lungs...everyone knows the words...Thanks!
Just_Plain_Eric wrote:My problem with this song...I believe the lyrics were written before the tune/melody, thus contributing to a weak melody and chorus (not that EVERY song written this way is not good...). The chorus sounds like it should be the pre-chorus, and we still need an uplifiting chorus after.
Course Ive sold like 2 cd's so....![]()

And if he was such a tough cookie to get with the program RE The Sopranos, it may be doubtful that he'd let a new incarnation of Journey perform his tunes on "Dancing With The Stars" or the like. He's signed off on things before, but I got the impression that the rest of the band was very leery of going to the well with him one too many times for that sort of thing.

They appeared on some morning show when Arrival came out (Youtube links were in a thread here at one point) so I don't think this is a problem. Royalties have to be paid like any other use of music on TV, but I don't think there's anything stopping them from performing live on TV if they had already done so in 2001. (also, parts of the Vegas DVD were also shown on TV, if I remember right, although it wasn't on any mainstream channel like VH1)

Perry approved the Journey 2001 DVD and the promotion of it, which included the GMA performance. Any time a song is broadcast in video (even in the background on a news broadcast, etc) the original songwriters give permission & set the terms. Perry also gave permission for the 30th anniversary DVD filmed in TX with Augeri, which will now never see the light of day.
