He sounds absolutely freakin' awesome as do the guys from Valentine! Much, much better than on the Journey cover stuff - world class, no doubt.

FF- as great as Hugo is both solo and here in these clips (thanks for posting!) He REALLY needs to be his own man. Not speaking of his voice, but his mannerisms. I was always curious if Hugo would be 'himself' with a non-Journey project or if he'd still have Perry's mannerisms. Unfortunately, the latter seems to be the case, which is a shame. Having said that, I've heard the Journey tribute act clips and wasn't nearly as impressed by those as I am by these clips. His voice sounds great. He would've been a great singer for Journey. Now, I hope he stays away from them. Pretty freakin' uncanny how much he looks like SP... wow.

Thanks for posting.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

That was my goal in taking some of these clips...the guy sounds amazing, but he's much easier for some to grasp when he's not singing Journey songs. If he had never been in a Journey tribute band, I think people would appreciate him more on his own merits...it's those damn Perry comparisons that gets everyone so passionate one way or the other. I'm glad to see people are seeing what I see in this guy...you gotta love his sound. Hugo truly is a talented & personable guy, and I can't wait for him to finish this Ramos/Hugo album. It's gonna stir up some real attention. E

Hey Eric, can you give us an update on the Hugo/Ramos thing? How close is Hugo to being done? Are any of the songs complete yet? If so, any chance of tossing up a 30 second snipit?? Even just some instrumentals would be great!

You are absolutely right my friend! Once I found Hugo's solo work, he lost all Perryisms for me. I especially love the Open Skyz cd. Cannot wait for Josh and Hugo to "stir it up" :)

God I would LOVE to put some samples out there, but it's still a bit premature. The album is completely in Hugo's hands now. In all honesty I finished my keyboard parts a year ago - but this is not unusual. I finished my keyboards for Takara a full year before JSS finished Blind in Paradise. In both cases the singer received the songs after they were completely finished, and then began writing lyrics and vocal melodies from scratch - in between their other ventures and of course, living life! To do this right will always take time - and thank thankfully it shows. :)

For those who wonder why I'm constantly working on new projects, imagine my anticipation (much like your own) during this necessary turn around time. I mean I wrote a lot of this album, and I am dying to hear it! :o

There is a small update on the album on my website this week as well as a recap from Firefest. For now all we can do is wait. But the initial reports I've received have been overwelmingly positive. E

He just CAN NOT get away from acting like Perry. He holds the mike like Perry, the cord, his hair swings around like Perry, it's just like watching Perry to be honest with you. H has an aweseom voice, he just needs to be his own man.

HOWEVER, if this Arnel fucker is the final singer in the tryout list, I would much rather see Hugo get a try. I never thought I'd say that, but if Arnel is as good as their going, Hugo is MUCH better as a performer and has a much better stage presence.....Errie as it may be.....

People have to get past the Perry thing and see him for what he is, "A Great Talent". So what he has perryisms, who cares. What if that was his idol growing up? and he wanted ti sing like him? Just like I wanted to play football like my idols, it doesn't matter, he has a great voice, what every he sings, and puts on a great show.

I've said that all along. That would be the one thing that would get me to another Journey concert.....Hugo on lead vocals. I think he's done the Perry thing for so long, it's ingrained in him at this point. He has an AWESOME voice and stage presence, but then he learned it from the best.

I have seen Evolution and I watched the clips from Firefest. Although he still has some of the mannerisms, I totally see and hear Hugo in the clips. Listen to his solo music and then see Evolution, you will have an entirely different opinion of him. I did.

But HE has to get away from the Perry thing for people to truly appreciate HIM. Otherwise, the average schmoe will just look at him and go "Wow, he's good. Almost as good as Steve Perry". The guy's an incredible talent. His CDs are great, but when you look at him, and he's doing 'that stuff', anybody that knows Perry is going to make the comparisons. That's a detriment to Hugo. However, it would not be to Journey. Now that they want to go for the "legacy sound", Hugo is the ultimate choice. But it will never happen, hopefully, because Hugo knows better than to jump in a boat with this band.

Cool! Thanks for posting the clips & to Eric & the others for taking them at Firefest. Hugo and Valentine definitely need to do some shows out here...especially lovin' that song, 'Tell it to my heart' - wow! on that long note.

I never heard Hugo do anything but his own stuff - I bought a CD of his on faith (so-to-speak) because of word of mouth. Then "Fire in the Night" was released and it ranks right up there in my top 10. He's absolutely fantastic, and I'll never get to see him here on the west coast : (

Re: Hugo video clips - Live at FireFest IV

I couldn't agree more. Screw Journey and go see these guys if they ever do a show in the states. I'd love to hear Hugo and Adam doing their own stuff. It actually rocks.

And to those that questioned whether Hugo can still bring it like he could in the early 90's, I think it's official .... FUCK OFF.

Journey would do well to pick him up. But he'd definitely have to dump the Perry crap and become his own man. It looks like he can do just that ...

Thanks again for the post FF.

Cheers,

Aaron

During the entry to "Tell It To My Heart" did Hugo say they were doing a new CD? I've been waiting a LONG time for that ....

Thanks for the clips! I am so bummed that I couldn't go to Firefest this year. :(

Here's Valentine back in the days that I used to go to see them play in Brooklyn (L'Amour): Valentine :D No Perry-isms there that I can see, just pure Hugo! And... Yowza!!! Is that man hot or what??? 8) We used to call him the "hot" Steve Perry -- with a much better nose, of course.

I found this listed on the same page with the Valentine video: Tyketto. They also performed regularly at L'Amour (said with a deep voice..."The rock capital of Brooklyn..."). I just love to watch Brooke in this video. :::drool:::

Hugo REALLY needs to make his music more available. He's got great albums that nobody can get.
I wish he'd put them on ITunes. So many people (who aren't half as good!) have their stuff there and, unless I'm missing it, his are not there.

I've got all his albums (except the Valentine album) but I came by them in a very roundabout way. I DID get Fire In the Night directly from his site (autographed) but still, if he'd get his music more 'out there', people would probably buy it on first listen. Impulse buys are huge and that's why Itunes is a very cool thing.

Come on Hugo!!
