Wow, never saw this clip before. Now I have to track down if there is a taped show somewhere. Anybody have the info on it?

This is from Day On The Green. They did 3 songs - Open Arms, Who's Crying Now (I think), and the first recorded performance of Seperate Ways.

Seperate Ways is fantastic, because it is still "Escape Era" Perry singing it.

It is certainly an interesting performance. I prefer the huskier vocals on "Frontiers", though.

Oh, thanks, Knox. I have seen the WCN and (the first live) SW clips from Day on the Green 1982. Did they only play 3 songs in that show, or just 3 got put on tape?

Interesting how we have our own preferences to the different voices of SP. To me, although the early Steve was definitely more technically proficient in the high-end glass shattering range, he sounded at times girlish and shrill. In the later years when his voice deepened, he seemed more masculine and the songs that were written at that time suited that style--like Separate Ways.

I guess if I were to choose a favorite SP/Journey time frame, it would be Escape, as that album was their masterpiece with the right combination of rockers/ballads to suit everyone's taste. And SP was right at the cusp of turning from a tenor to a baritone  .

Well I'm not that picky. I like all live performances because it's something new and different to listen too. The longer SP stays away, the more valuable these performances become to me. SP could sing Sesame Street and I would dig it.

I much prefer the pre '83 Perry. The hair, the high voice... He seemed much more than just a mere singer.

Starting in 83, with the image and vocal change, it was never the same for me.

I liken it to when I read comic books as a kid. You would get a copy of Fantastic Four, and the Thing has been drawn by a different artist. Same character, but not the one I grew to love in the "old days".

I tend to agree with the above.
What a moment. What a band.

Ah yes, but when he grew it to past his rear end on the FTLOSM tour, he voice did not return to it's long-hair tenor status.

Nobody cared, it was SP on stage again and he could have followed "Sesame Street" with "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and we would have fainted! :D :D :D

That was my first "road trip" tour: San Francisco, Portland and Puerto Rico. Would have been Ft. Lauderdale, but that one was cancelled! Had a chance to to to the Seattle concert, too, but had to work.

I hate when work interferes with my life......

Goodness that was pretty...never saw that one before. There has to be an afterlife if we can feel such feelings from some song/performance/singer that was done 25 yrs ago NOW. TIMELESS...ETERNAL....WOW!
The Budakon Open Arms is just as amazing - each one has its own mood. The Budakon concert feels very melancholy to me. I wonder what was happening within SP at the time.

Great to have both versions. I can't really choose one over the other.

Hearing that in the 82 voice is awesome.
