How's Jimi Jamison's voice?

Postby PianoMan1986 » Sat Nov 03, 2007 4:40 am

Greetings,

I'm going to make it clear right off the bat that this question is purely out of curiosity, ok? I'm just looking for fan input on this. I unfortunately haven't seen him or the band (in any form) and I was just curious as to how Jimi's voice has held up over the years -- Does he still have the same range and power?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and as always I look forward to reading replies.

Nick
PS - Totally off-topic, "What if he tried out some of the Journey catalog?"

Just listening to Empires now. Jamison sounds incredible on this album, infact the album is absolutely awesome a real solid release.

I too am curious as to how he sounds in 2007.

Sorry to be splicing multiple topics together, but how does his solo material compare to Survivor's and can you recommend any album in particular? His band(s) prior to joining Survivor (their material I mean)?

Hey Andrew I saw Jimi in late 2006 and I thought he was struggling at bit. Now having said that Jamo at 80 percent is awesome. I thought his voice was a bit different from previous times I had seen him in concert. I thought he had to work harder. By the way this is not a criticism at all. JJ is an amazing vocalist and there's no way 20 years later he is going to be able to belt it out like he did on VS or WSC.

Learning to take more time out....been hard this year with so much on. Next year will be busy also I think. I'll continue to post any info when I can.
Jim P tells me he and JJ have finished work on song #3.

You bet. Voices change over the years...hard to keep up from when you were a 30rd old for example. But JP has been coaching JJ back to his best and it shows on what I heard.

Andrew any word on if JP is going to sing on the new cd? While JP's voice isn't as strong as JJ's, Peterik can be very effective when he chooses the right song. Curious if JP's work on the new JJ album is interfering with work on a new PRIDE OF LIONS disc. There are a lot of POL fans out there that can't get enough of Toby. Is POL done? Is this just a side project with JJ? Thanks for posting Andrew much appreciated.

Ok - to the best of my knowledge -
There is no word about JP singing on the JJ disk. Backing vocals perhaps only. I can't imagine him singing any lead and Thom Griffin is also doing BVs.
No POL news at this stage. The JJ album is Jim's project for 2008 along with a solo jazz record, but no...POL is not finished, just not right now.

Okay its good to know that POL is not finished. I'd hate to see that group vanish because of 1 JJ solo album. I look forward to JP's jazz solo record. Does this guy ever take time off? LOL. Anyway good to see you posting Andrew.

Yeah his a songwriting machine. I miss he and Frankie collaborating. They really wrote some great tunes to fit JJ and Bickler's voice. I thought I read or heard once where he said Frankie had a way of reeling him in. Oh well. Look forward to the new JJ and JP collaboration.

JJ sings I am buying. Not a fan of JP's voice. He is great at other things.

Hey Rock agreed on JP but he does have some fine moments on POL.
