Worst Journey song...of any era.....

Of any era? I'd have to go with Butterfly for that one.

I'd nominate "On a Saturday Nite" for that one. Any time a song has night spelled as "Nite", it's a sure sign that the song sucks the big one.

Except of course "Rock n Roll All Nite" by KISS.....

You're right...It's also one of the few Kiss songs that I like.

Larry, When I think of you is a song SP wrote with Jon after Steve had a dream about seeing his Mom. And I think Dean and Lula adopted it for Trevor. It is a beautiful song, but honestly, I too think it should have been more powerful -- like Open Arms II or Faithfully.

I'm kind of fond of Baby I'm a want you, when so many dislike it. No, doesn't sound like a Journey tune, but I think it was just meant to be a fun, tongue-in-cheek little short song, a hidden-track throw-in. SP sounded cute in it, and Neal threw in some jamming stuff.

I would say the few songs I don't care for are some of the early, dated material, like:

Homemade Love
Lady Luck
Can Do
City of Angels
When you're along, it ain't easy

The music on these songs don't go anywhere, and the lyrics are cheesy as hell.

Did you ever stop to listen
To what you're missin', in the things you say
If you open up your eyes
than you'll realize, what I say

[Chorus:]
You can do what you want to
you can do if you try
You can do what you want to
You can do if you try

You take that golden rule
That you learned in school
And just throw it away
If you're well directed
Then you're protected, from the evil ways

[Chorus]

You can do what you want to
You can do if you try

shit this gives me all the confidence i need to start writing.whoever wrote this crap should ashamed they ever wrote it........

Other than Lights and LTS I think most of the songs on the first three albums are lyrically challenged. Most of them have lovely melodies and Perry's voice makes the words sound great, but the lyrics actually say very little and take you noplace but up up into Steve's vocal stratosphere.

First three albums :?:

Oh that's right, it doesn't matter if the recordings exist, they have to sell a ton of copies and have Perry voice out front.[/b]

No, the topic was 5 worst songs of PERRY era Journey, therefore ohsherrie's referring to the first 3 albums of the Perry era.

That's exactly my take, too, Sherrie. We're talking about the 1st 3 Perry-era albums. The melodies, musicianship, and vocals are all there -- as well as a few more good complete songs like WITS, WOM in addition to Lights and LTS. Majority are lyrically challenged, lol -- great way of putting it.

You have to give Jon all the credit in the world for coming in and helping raised the bar. The songs instantly had meaning and became memorable. Maybe the change in decade had something to do with it, too. I believe it was Steve that said they were all played out of the same old stuff, and it was time to try some new things.

I think some of it was Jon's own talent, but really I think it was more the chemistry between Jon and Steve and finding a direction for the music. The first three albums, to me, could really all be one album. The music doesn't seem to evolve or grow at all until Escape. They found their definition with that one and hit their stride, then in each of the next three albums I can feel and hear the music maturing and finding new, interesting textures and feelings.

Yea, The Party's Over, La Raza and Walks Like A Lady have no BIZNESS being near a "worst of" list.

Surprised by the amount of pre-Escape stuff mentioned here, especially Dixie Highway.

Worst Perry Era Top 5 for me.
1. Happy To Give (cringe)
2. Back Talk (wtf?)
3. Open Arms (so pretty I lose my cookies)
4. Once You Love Somebody (slit the wrist)
5. The Eyes Of a Woman (slit the other wrist)

Most of the post Captured ballads I'm not really thrilled with. There are some I like though.

Hey Joe Pa,
I finally heard some of the Red13 stuff and I think it's really good! I especially like Walking Away from the edge...

Why does everyone hate this EP? I know the production is pretty crappy, but the songs aren't bad.

Obviously there's a tad of sarcasm there. But not one of my favorites by far. It's got a great bass sound though. So maybe it didn't deserve the sarcasm. Raised On Radio just might be my least favorite album song-wise but the production is amazing. Especially the newest remaster Steve did. Sounds fanatastic.

It seems the production is the biggest culprit. I think the songs were pretty good myself. Especially Walking Away From The Edge. I think Neal wanted to try to take Journey in different direction and he found it was a mistake. Plus it fanned the flames for the fans who didn't like Augeri in the first place.
