Which is the more timeless LP.

with all the great songs on both LP's Infinity or Frontiers. Which LP has stood the test of time the best.
from lights to Faithfully both LPs were masterpieces, but for different reasons.

Since I am in my 40s and grew up with infinity i will choose that one.

I go with Infinity too. There are more timeless songs on that record that they continue to perform than on Frontiers.

I'll go with Infinity. I heard it before Frontiers, and I always felt that it has a warmer atmosphere somehow. I know that sounds ridiculous, but hey.

Hard to tell. Both albums stood the test of time beautifully.I'd go with Frontiers because of "Faithfully"...That song is immortal.

hmmmm...

Wheel in the Sky and Lights or Send Her My Love and Faithfully....

I think Faithfully is the most timeless song, but as a whole I'd say the Infinity album will stand the test of time. Does that make sense?

"Infinity" here.. even though I seem to listen to "Frontiers" stuff more.

"Infinity" has a lot of qualities that I hold dear in my musical taste: Multiple vocalists, dense textures, progressive style/influence, cohesiveness... the whole thing is overall more of a wonderful listening experience than "Frontiers."

Wheel in the Sky and Winds of March are such unique songs - lyrically if not in terms of music. If Journey only released those two songs on an album it would have been their greatest album. I definitely go with Infinity.

Infinity

That was the classic Journey sound. Frontiers embarked on a whole different type of sound, as did Escape, and those two are as different as night and day. One of the coolest things about Journey is that there are so many different eras of the band.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

To truly be timeless, an album must be devoid of any musical fads that can easily fit it into an era. The keyboards on Separate Ways alone remove the chances of Frontiers being "timeless" IMO.

Which boggles my mind why they are set on the dirty dozen all the time. Or that Jeff wasn't the "Journey sound".

infinity....

frontiers was the begining of that pop commercial sound coming through.too many ballads and radio stuff for me.the last truly great album i liked was escape.i might get slayed for that opinion but frontiers, raised on radio, greatest hits, trial by fire were all albums where they tried to gain hits.i think escape was their last great album oriented effort before they really started shooting for singles.i mean look at the first side of frontiers.you have after the fall then send her my love then faithfully and then the big radio hit seperate ways.they were shooting for radio hits and the pop sheen was showing through.i like a few songs on frontiers and raised on radio but those two were steps down in my opinion from past efforts.i just think they started trying to hard to get hits and not enough time just making a real good solid album..........

Are you kidding, Infinity was great but Frontiers gave us a highly recognizable power rock song in "Seperate Ways"!

I have been to several Journey shows and if I'm not mistaken, each of them opened up with that one... it always gets the blood pumping!

Frontiers by a landslide.

We're talking about "timeless" "albums" here, not which one gave the catchiest of hard-rocking hit singles here.

What other posters have stated about Frontiers have been true. Dated keyboard sounds, more of an effort to get hit singles, and so on and so forth.

Also, let's look at everything in terms of the album as a whole. "Infinity" was FAR more cohesive and had a better flow than "Frontiers." Sure, "Infinity" had what is possibly the worst Perry-era song in "Can Do," but even then that song fit in well to the while organic vibe and didn't feel too out of place. "Infinity" seemed much more down to earth, had more of a mystic sense to it, very other-worldly at times... while a lot of "Frontiers" did seem a little synthetic.

"Infinity" gave us such underrated, yet equally bone-chilling moments as the climaxing in "Patiently," the drum turnaround in "Feeling That Way," the harmonizing with Schon's guitar in "Somethin' to Hide," the entire song "Winds of March," Perry's scream in "Wheel in the Sky"... there's just so many more memorable nuances and such in "Infinity" than "Frontiers." The whole thing is more artistic and credible in my eyes than "Frontiers."

The synth stuff on Frontiers is very cool, but probably dates it. Faithfully is immortal (LOVE that description), but overall I think Infinity is timeless.
