Why assholes? It's their right to sell their songs to whomever wants to use them.

That aside,I'm not even convinced that this Kayne guy asked permission from Journey.

He doesn't need to - he just covered it at one of his shows.

I liked that Kenya's fans knew the lyrics and were singing along.

Thanks for the link but a frame time when it started would've been nice. I wasted over 4 min listening to his extended intro.

Thankfully Firefox has multiple tabs so I was doin the MR catchup during it.

Didn't like the woman covering the DSB intro as well.

Note to Rappers, the song is a classic for a reason. Be original and come up with something new and listenable.

I hope to hell he doesn't decided to take DSB and "create" a new song from it like he did with Daft Punk.

Take a look at Cat slapping the crumbs out of LC's mouth. Laura, how the Hell did you not know a band doesn't permission to cover a fuckin song? You think Journey and SP called Elvis and said, "Yo, King. Can we use Jailhouse on our Raised on Radio Tour?"

Nice throwdown Cat.

2 things.

1- He WOULD need permission to re record it and I can tell you right now, SP would never say yes to these fuckvibes.

2- You should be embarrassed to know who Daft Punk is.

Normally I would but Apple's iPod ads give me an excuse. :D

They've taken the torch up from Kraftwerk. Actually Daft Punk samples most of their stuff as well. But since its mostly electronic and not as mainstream, I don't care.

Guess I should be embarrased to know who Kraftwerk is.

That's how the copyright law works in the US?Interesting. In MY country,a band/artist that wants to cover another band's/artist's material (in concert or on a recording) needs to ask for permission.
If a band tours and they decide to cover songs they need to ask permission from the song writer(s) and pay for the rights to use those songs as part of their tour setlist.

I have no idea if Kanye played DSB in every show or it was just a one time (homage for his Mom) thing - but if he toured and covered DSB everytime without asking Journey's permission then he's in trouble. We're talking about a tour that produces money.

The example with Elvis is ok - I'm sure that Journey didn't do Jailhouse Rock without paying the rights to use it. Even if the King was dead, the ones who inherited his business received a check after the ROR Tour was over.

Anyway, the discussion on the copyright/permission subject could take weeks. There are SO many details to it,it's ridiculous.

PS~ I didn't feel a thing,Cat.... You are a very smooth drive-by shooter.

Nope, anyone can play anything live without permission. Only when it is recorded for retail consumption do rights need to be requested and paid for. So if Journey sells the ROR concert on DVD they will have to pay for the rights on Jailhouse Rock or edit it out.

Um...is Kanye actually doing anything in that song? He's a rapper...dude cannot sing. Trust me.

I saw him open for U2 in 2005 and it was one of the lamest excuses for a live performance I've ever seen. I don't understand what the big deal is with this guy. And he really needs to leave Daft Punk alone.

Speaking of assholes, you should check out the just released 911 tape that was made by a couple of idiots who were with her at the time. Not sure if they were family, friends or neighbors but neither one had a brain cell in their head. It's approx. 8 minutes long and all you hear is one of them screeching and shouting in the background incoherently, then having a panic attack while the other one says "huh?" every 30 seconds to the dispatcher who's trying to (very calmly) instruct them on CPR over and over and over again. She'd probably still be alive if it weren't for these dumbasses.

Nice lil eulogy he did for his mom too! What was that genius quote that got the applause? Oh, yeah, "Eff the media!" What a dumbass.
