The C&D was about more than just those stupid pictures. That should be obvious. There was a whole paragraph about his attendance and his guest interaction, and it was all placed on a specific page called steveperry.html... come on... if it was JUST the pics in some little gallery on their site it would be different.

Perhaps we don't know the whole story. Perhaps a phone call from the attorney's office was placed first before the C&D. I'd hope so. A formal cease & desist is still overboard for this situation. Should they have used his image and written what they did without his permission? No. Could this have been resolved without the extremes? YES.

I'm ALL for Steve's privacy, as I used to moderate a Perry board and recited my mantra about respecting Steve's privacy each and every day. There's nothing appropriate with the photos or what they wrote. I'd just like to see things handled without "the hand of god" coming down and smacking someone when a phone call from the attorney's office would have probably done the deed. Had the wedding people been pricks about it, then sure, C&D...but what was tried FIRST?

Was this a cease & desist order or letter? The two are very different. Order requires a judge, letter can be written by the attorney. Wikipedia sez: In the US, a recipient of a cease-and-desist letter who is placed in a "reasonable apprehension" of litigation may respond through a request for declaratory judgment proceeding in his own jurisdiction. So basically, this letter became a threat of a lawsuit.

THAT's what I felt was overboard. Sorry.... I'm opinionated on this, and I didn't like how it was handled. But then again, we only have one side of the story.

What a cheap shot.Seriously,do you think before you type something like that? For someone who seems to despise Steve Perry like you do,you sure jump into this thread twice a day. Why?Just to make asshole-ish comments like the one above?

There is nothing sad or sordid about Steve Perry's life. You are clueless.I believe the man is all class and I feel sorry for people like you who can't appreciate what he has done in the years when he was an active artist.Whatever he did after he retired is none of your damn business and you are not entitled to judge or label his decisions, let alone his private life. No one is.

YOU definitely need to get a life.

But, you know, that isn't good enough.

Well, seems like nothing he does ever is. The expectations people have with him are insane to me. No matter what he does, people bitch. The dude hasn't been in the spotlight for ages, and he seems happy with that. What the hell is the big problem about that? For a guy to still be willing to pop up and answer 100 questions at a time about whether he still flies helicopters when he certainly doesn't have to just because he knows his fans want it isn't enough?

I swear, he could release a double CD tomorrow and the concensus would be "Waaaaahhhh! Why didn't he release 3?"

I've said this before... he isn't the one with the problem here.
Those who are annoyed with him for what he is or isn't doing are the ones creating their own frustration.

That is probably the smartest post I've seen on this board in a long time! The extremists on both sides of the issue are friggin ridiculous.

Well, exactly - and very true, as you said, we got one side of the story. Maybe all they got was an email asking them to remove it OR they would receive the letter and by the time they answered people's emails it became, "we got a cease and desist order". Who knows. *shrug* Could have been blown out of proportion on either side and inthe end, it doesn't really matter. If he didn't want the pics up, then he didn't want them up. It's done with now.

So many of you Perry haters, in fact all of you, need to come clean and throw up the white flag. He hasn't done one bad thing to this band. In fact, he is probably pissed at Journey for decimating the name and the product to pure liquid shit. I feel for Steve. Dude is all class and although I personally think or wish he would communicate more, I respect his wishes and his control over his own life.

Now, that black cloud that you can plainly see over the Journey brand, that isn't really a cloud. That is Perry's shadow...one they will never ever escape.

That about sums it up. Okay so he doesn't commuicate more... and?
If that's all these guys can find to bitch about, then I just shake my head.

You know where that "He hasn't done one bad thing to this band" thing is going to go though... "he left the band, they waited and waited for him...." blah blah. Yeah whatever. Well, whose stomping Journey history into the mud NOW?

And they're bitching that Perry doesn't communicate or that he didn't post a birthday message? Bigger fish to fry, folks. He's just living. That's all. If it's such a problem for ya, smack him with a C&D and tell him to stop being silent. *snicker*

Isn't it time to close the thread? How many times do these things need to be said again and again without any answers yet more ideas; speculation, posturiing, claims and counter claims....

Thanks

If you don't, I will serve you with a Cease and desist order:)

Ok, I dispute that he hasn't done anything bad to the band, and I submit that I take exception to the "dude is all class" proclomation.

It's OK, I full well realize that not demonizing Schon and to a lesser extent Cain puts me in the minority of our online communities. I still sleep alright. :)

Other than that, I think we're getting along famously here.
