OT: Which song did a video ruin?

Postby StoneCold » Sat Dec 29, 2007 2:54 pm

Ever liked a song until you saw the video? Or still like though the vid was crap?

I like Coldplay's "The Hardest Part" and went to check if the vid was any good. Luckily an intro gave advance warning. It sounded like a young guy and an 84yo woman were gonna be dancing in bathing suits. That was enough for me, I clicked out. That's one visual I don't need.

If you're brave or don't care, here's the link:

One of the best vids for a song I liked was Yes's "Owner of a Lonely Heart"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goMsbyfPRZM

In Journey's case, I like the music despite some bad vids.

Yeah, that 84yo woman must have worked in a circus. And one thing interesting about the second clip is the singer Jon Anderson, that guy hasn't lost any part of his voice or vocal range over the years. I heard him do an unplugged version of that song and he was hitting all the high notes right on the nose.

As for the video disappointment, I would say Soft Cell's Tainted Love. That was always a fun one to dance to back in the Tokyo dance club days with all those hot Japanese chicks dancing all around. However, just about a week ago I saw the video for the first time and it completely sucked! Its so annoying to watch that dumbshit just whining into the camera throughout the entire friggin song.

That guy reminded me of Boy George without the mumu and dreads. :D

Didn't bother me that much since it was a bandstand type deal. He was emo before emo was cool.

Billy Squier - Rock Me Tonight

Not only did the video ruin the song, it ruined Billy's career.

Bad Videos - Hall and Oates

Postby Diffworlds » Sat Dec 29, 2007 10:57 pm

Almost any Hall & Oates video. I love their music, but man did the video's for "Method of Modern Love", "Adult Education" and "Private Eyes" suck. "Maneater" was a pretty cool video; however, the majority of the videos earn a C- at best.

H&O got ruined for me 'cuz I worked with a nutcase that adored Hall. Everyday was H&O day. I finally just bought an iPod, ripped all my cds (including H&O) and said we're gonna let the music shuffle so whatever comes on is what's gonna play. Problem solved.

Their music changed from good soft rock to poppy 80's stuff so it depends on the song.

 Just saw it.

That is wrong on so many levels.

1. A flashdance style torn pink tshirt.
2. He tears off said shirt to put on another pink shirt.
3. Writhing on the floor crawling.
4. The dancing.   Makes the Augeri wiggle look masculine.

Wow, that's might be the topper right there. Great song, REALLY bad video. Gonna be hard to beat that one. :D

What about:

1. White SATIN(!!) sheets.
2. The PINK FOG in the elevator.
3. Oh, and Kenny Ortega - the Director - also directed "Dirty Dancing" a few years later. (based on THIS video?? GOD I hope not. )

The PussyCat Dolls did Tainted Love also. I watched their video and I think it would have been better if they weren't wearing so many clothes in it.

Omg, without a doubt, "After The Fall". That video sucked like a hooker when the rent is due.
