Which band would Arnel sound better as a vocalist in?

Postby G.I.Jim » Sun Dec 30, 2007 4:23 pm

Just a thought, but which band do you think Arnel would be a better replacement vocalist for...Journey or Survivor? When I first heard him sing with "The Zoo", I thought MAN, he'd sound awesome as a replacement for Survivor! I've heard all of the survivor clips with their new singer, but honestly I don't think he sounds at ALL like Jimi Jamison.

I think Arnel will do a great job with Journey, I just kinda wish he was Survivor's new singer. As they sound now, I wouldn't go to see them if it were free! I think their new singer has a good voice, just not a Survivor voice!

Here's a clip of Arnel's Survivor tunes...

I do to, but WTF??? This is between Journey and Survivor! Not Toto, Aerosmith, or any of the other hundred songs they did! You're killing me here!

This is such a difficult choice but I have chosen Journey. I must admit I'm a little bias because he's in Journey now. But either way he pulled it off on those videos.

I think he'll sound great in Journey also. Maybe he'll give it his own sound. In a way, maybe it's better that he's in Journey, because now maybe we'll get a Journey album with Survivorish vocals. And YES, I just made that name up!

What about a Surviving Journey for the album's title? It doesn't sound good though.

THAT one went right over my head! Anyway, are you a Survivor fan? I was really amazed when I heard him sing "The search is over", and even more so on "Ever since the world began"! He's definitely got the voice down. I think he sounds much better on the Survivor stuff, but that's just my opinion.

This is, by far, the longest series of "qoutes" ever.

I enjoy quite a varied style of music so long as the content is good and not just shouting.

Every one here might hate me now but I do enjoy theatre/musical as well. Miss Saigon, Les Miserable (both had been played by Lea Salonga, a Filpino) not to mention her singing voice of Jasmine in Aladin (Disney)

and of course Phantom of the Opera.

Tough call, I guess he's good at both. Though only two bands to choose from, not a great deal of options here. Too bad Europe wasn't one of the options because if it was, that's where I would put my money down.

Having no real credentials, by that I mean Arnel would have struggled to embed his name in the Melodic world, continuing with his former band and as the clock is always ticking, Journey had to be the best vehicle to hitch a ride. If not Journey, then yes I agree Toto could have been an option but not Survivor, as the exposure isn't as great. Regardless of how in pans out with Journey, Arnel will be on the Rock Map and if it all goes pear shaped then at least he'll be know to a wider audience.

I personally would have liked to see him fronting The Bay City Rollers

What I forgot to mention is - Toto now, have more of a European/Asian following than that of the US and it also looks like Journey are now adopting a view that overseas is a serious market, by Journey including Arnel in the lineup, it's a win, win situation for them. They fuck up in the States, there's still a very lucrative market over the pond and in Asia

Survivor yes, TOTO... ummm no. That's like stepping back in time back to 1983, and taking Freddie Mercury away from Queen and asking for a replacement, the simple question... WHY?.

If I had a choice, he'd be with Survivor. He sounds amazing singing their stuff. I'd like to see them put out another kick-ass cd, but I don't see that ever happening now. I am excited about the new Journey cd also though! 50% of the votes so far say they could care less either way! I'm not sure that Steve Lukather would allow Arnel to bring his music stand...so that scratches out Toto.

As for survivor, Frankie Sullivan likes to make sure his singers have enough financial assets so that he can sue them later on in life.

Btw, not 'could care less', but 'couldn't care less'.

I mean, he's probably a good singer and will do fine, but if Journey found 'Joe Schmuckatelli from Madison WI', I wouldn't feel any different. More and more I feel that this band has become a tribute to themselves. It's kind of a strange feeling, but it's like the Hall of Presidents at Disneyland - they're just robots going through the motions.
