Who in their right mind would buy a ticket to Def Lippard? These guys are anything but live. No talent hacks.

Haha, when Journey toured with Lippard myself and my buddies went to three shows. After Journey's set, every time, we'd go party in the parking lot and listen to more Journey. It was awesome. Never saw more than 2 or 3 songs of Lippard's set.

Haha, in Mansfield(Boston), after the show I was dickin around backstage, drinking free beer and got this great idea to see what the Lippard was all about, so I popped open the back curtain and had 18,000 people looking at me. I didn't care, just stared back at them for what seemed like minutes. They are a real cheesy shit band. It was so obvious when they went "live" and then back to canned vocals. Their sound engineer wasn't half as good as Elson, that's for sure.

I saw Foreigner, Styx and Def Leppard last year. Foreigner clearly had the most energy, crowd participation and applause even though their set had only about 60% of the audience that DL did. Foreigner has an energetic lineup that rocks the classics hard. They've souped up the classics a bit and rock them a little harder. Styx, minus DeYoung, just isn't Styx for me and Tommy Shaw has lost a little in the vocal dept. While still good, he can't compensate for Gowan, who is a vocal anchor. Def Laughard has more pre-recorded shit than HBO. While I understand there is demand for them, and they're only giving their fans what they want, Elliott should trade in the Marlboro Lights for a treadmill and take his job a bit more seriously. He sounds like shit and does little remedy it. Personally, I think that band sucks.

well, possibly--- but seeing STYX live, particularly Tommy Shaw, is worth it. and 30 minutes is way better than nada. i REALLY enjoyed seeing STYX with DL, especially California, (where were we Cindi??). And I could see Jeff on stage to the side enjoying the show with us. Todd Sucherman is a monster--so fun to watch! JY -- wow. Ricky Phillips--yummy. and LG is very entertaining--a real showman. and an acrobat!!!

just my $.02

STYX didn't always open--Foreigner opened too. right?

shows are lots lots lots more than just one entity. imho.

I'm with Debbie--these bills are lots of fun. Remember front row in Houston, Deb? Getting to play Tommy's guitar, winks and picks raining down...

It's about money, folks. Def Lep resisted overtures from Journey to tour together for years (Joe Elliott didn't think it was a good fit, but Neal was determined); then the 2006 tour turned out to be Def Lep's second highest-grossing tour EVER. (Of course ticket price inflation accounts for some of that.) Def Lep-Styx-Foreigner obviously must have done well last year too.

yea! I remember now! he came over twice!!! that was fun.

and, Dean, DrFu and I bought tickets for STYX in Houston. Def Leppard just happened to be there too. and Foreigner just blew us away.

It was Irvine, thanks Ang and K. I can't complain--I had a GREAT seat. I bought tickets for STYX in Irvine. hm....DL was there too, i think. 1st row about the pit. elevated about 2 feet above their heads. no one blocking my view. awesome. and I caught a pick there too!! what an arm, JY! it was a great night.

Def Leppard have made some good songs, yes, but their live show is very manufactured and a lot of their material has grown stale and dated. They're not untalented, but.. they could be doing a little more with what they have.

true. it is a good show. but once you've seen it, you've seen it.

I guess one could say that about the Journey shows too but they never get old for me. I hear/see something new each time.

True enough, I'm not interested in this tour of theirs, again they're touring? Joe's voice can't take the beating-I saw them in 2000 & saw their tv appearances & was disappointed. He seemed to be able to hit the high notes in the 1990s but not after. Was there a particular event that stripped his vocal chords? Should he get throat surgery like I heard Steven Tyler did?

There is something to be said for the demand that being one of the few bands of the era with their original lineup intact, excepting vivian, obviously. As long as they are touring with a Styx, Foreigner, Journey, etc they will be at the top of the bill - Which is kind of funny because Leppard was never bunched in with those bands during their heyday....REO just doesn't have the drawing power that Styx and Foreigner do, despite having the original lineup.

I completely disagree. Hysteria yielded 6 Top 20 hits and 3 in the top 5. The Hysteria tour was 250+ dates and lasted 16 months. It was one of the biggest and most successful tours ever.

Leppard was HUGE...That's not what I meant. I meant that their fan base was not shared with those other bands. Leppard, in their time, were more a hard rock outfit than any of the other bands mentioned.

Gotcha. Hysteria definitely was their way of entering the "pop" side of Top 40 rock...and it worked quite well!!! That album started bringing in the Journey and other AOR fans.

Dude, your effort to tear down Leppard won't change the fact that BOTH Journey and Bryan Adams opened for them.
My nephew loves Leppard and asked if I could take him to the show at the Joe for an early b'day present. We're going. :D

There's one more!!!!

April 26, Coors Amphitheatre, San Diego, CA :D :D :D :D

I LOVE DEF LEPPARD!!

I have never been disappointed in all the years seeing them(since 1983)and I don't expect to be this time! Woo Hoo!! 8)

Exactly. I can't get enough of them either! Enough of the bashing of the Leppard!

Just grab a CD player and turn it up real loud. Same difference. Those Euro choads are all tape. Pathetic.

I am proud to say I stole all thier beer from the Hollywood Bowl last year. Fuck em

Def Leppard is awesome. I think you must be listening to the wrong band! :?:

Def Leppard have made some good songs, yes, but their live show is very manufactured and a lot of their material has grown stale and dated. They're not untalented, but.. they could be doing a little more with what they have.

i agree.this is 2008 not 1988.twenty years ago def leppard was the biggest band in the world with two straight albums in pyromania and hysteria that both sold over ten million making them and bon jovi at the time one of the best selling rock bands in history.bon jovi had slippery when wet and new jersey that both sold over ten million and leppard had pyromania and hysteria that sold that many.however since then both bands have grown dated and haven't done much of anything.by the mid 90's both were lucky to sell half million copies of its newest album.
