That's what I thought Prince had done - essentially, the CD was "bought" with the ticket and therefore counted in sales.

Yea, so Prince's sales counted towards RIAA certification, someone got mad, changed the rules and Journey was eligible to report the "giveaway" Generations as sales.

The retail release that October then peaked in the 100s.
