I hated Generations at first because of the mastering. Sounded like it was recorded in a toilet. I've since grown to like some of the songs (tho they don't get spun nearly as often as other Journey stuff, including Arrival).

Faith in the Heartland was a good live number and pretty good on CD, although far too long. Definitely not taking Higher Place's "place" as the best Augeri song for me.

Place in Your Heart is pretty good as well, love Neal's leads on there.

Better Life might be a bit of a dragging track but I kinda like it once again cuz of Neal, love the sounds he gets out of his guitar in this song.

Knowing that You love me is garbage, totally unremarkable ballad that wouldn't have even been big in the 80s power ballad heyday, sounds like a goddamn Church hymn with the You lift me up crap

Out of Harm's Way I really enjoy, a little heavier feel and I love Neal's riffing and Augeri sounds really good on this one

Better Together - Terrible.

Beyond the Clouds - Very nice midtempo track. Reminds me a lot of the ballads that Jim Peterik writes for Pride of Lions, and of course the interplay between Augeri's voice and Neal's guitar is classic.

Never Too Late - Wish they would have done this one live. Maybe a little "contemporary" or "modern" sounding for Journey, but still a catchy song. Haven't seen anyone faulting Loverboy for sounding a little bit more "modern" on JGS.

I don't know... I guess Generations for me is "some killer, a lot of filler." The middle of the CD just really sucks for the most part.

People like BTC and I'm not a fan of that at all.

Not one of my fave Journey releases, but I do like some songs.

I missed that LOL he must have been sitting behind me

ya mean behind us??? DrFU, did you hear it? stupid indoor venue. no standing up. :x and also Layton's friend was behind us and he couldn't stand up.

'cept Crazy4Ross. you never did sit, did ya barb?

Nope, didn't hear it; that whole show was sort of an out-of-body experience--sitting in what seemed like high school auditorium seats, worrying about getting whacked by that guy's cane, speculating about which golden oldie the band going to treat us to (Winds of March?). It was cool that Neal's fingers actually looked blurry on some of his furious solos, though.

As for Generations, I like the whole thing a lot, hence the avatar. Seemed like the guys were having fun trying things out. They knew it was a give-away CD. We have plenty of slick corporate rock in the Journey back catalog. I do agree, though, with whoever said Generations sounds like it was recorded in the toilet; the production is pretty terrible.

I don't believe in guilty pleasures, so I'll be quite honest: I loved "Out of Harm's Way". The song has a killer lead; when I played it for my friends, none of them could believe that it was Journey. It really showed off Neal's ability to play with the best of the metal guitarists. My one complaint is that Jonathan Cain's role was subdued. If they had to throw the keyboard on such a heavy song, they could have put it to better use or -- better yet -- have Cain play rhythm guitar.

But the best part of the song were the harmonies between Deen and Steve. I loved Steve's voice and his screams as he bellowed "harm's waaayyyyyy". He definately had an understated rocker side to him. I get pumped when I hear it.

Anyone have a live version of it?

Out Of Harm's Way definitely shows that Neal has a metal side lurking somewhere within him... I remember when my friend and I heard it live for the first time (before we had heard Generations on CD) we both looked at each other during the intro and were like "Wow, that's really DT-like" (DT=Dream Theater). I saw it twice live and it rocked... they might have even played it and Chain Reaction back to back. Smokin live Journey. And I also really like when Augeri belts harms wayyyyyyyy at the end of the chorus. Good stuff.

Yea, there's a Led Zep vibe in it. Maybe, The Song Remains The Same?

Check and see if there isn't a Rush vibe in this.
