That interview was on the Ray Foley radio show. The guy posted the clips on his Blog...Scroll down until you reach the September 4 entry "We meet Steve Perry...". Both parts are there.

Over the years he's directly commented, at least to my recall, exactly twice on Journey vocalists since his departure.

Once was his reply when asked on his toughts on Augeri dedidicating his Red13 performance to him:

"With all due respect my my memories of Journey remain locked in our time together" or some other less-than-charitable reply

and another time to take a blast at Augeri as "a sound-alike or whatever he is"

Other than that he keeps pretty mum.
well he was right to say it ....and in my opinion if he said that about Augeri he might be thinking the same about "Pinata" about how he makes a great Karaoke singer! You know has everyones sound down ...but his own...

Steve Perry has been MIA from performing onstage with Journey since 1987. While he's my favorite artist of all-time and the greatest voice I've ever heard, why would anyone give a shit what he thinks about Journey, a band he abandoned over 20 years ago? I wanna hear about his cats, man!!!

I actually get a boot in the ass out them finding great voices like J and Pineda who can replicate the irreplaceable sound ( ) on YouTube for goddsakes.

Agreed.

However, Nealpoleon and Frigalini want the general, not-so-intelligent fan reaction to be "replicate."....imitate (falling dreadfully short) is what is going to be the actual reaction.

He's been asked before about Journey after he left, and he said that Journey was in his past and he hasn't listened to any of their newer stuff. Do you believe that? Surely he's been curious and checked them out, though I can understand him not wanting to admit it...

Sure he cares. That's all a facade. It's kind of like with him not singing. He says in interviews here and there that he thinks about and wants to sing, but then doesn't. Imo, if he could sing, he would. He'll just never admit it. Another facade.

I think Perry is WAY beyond being mad, hearing about a nostalgia, oldies concert coming to a local state fair. Let's not forget that Perry sold out 20K seat arenas and larger, while he was with Journey. The fact that they're "packing in" 5,000 people to listen to the songs that his voice made famous probably makes the guy laugh. I think as a fan of music, he probably thinks Arnel has a great singing voice. I just don't think Perry has ever felt ANY connection to the guys who have called themselves Journey since he departed the band. As I've said before, Perry looks better, with each dopey move Journey makes. Remember, they are trying to imitate HIS sound much more so than they've ever tried moving on without him! I think the facts speak for themselves, and much more so now, than ever before!

John from Boston

Great post....Great thoughts and you hit it right on the head.....30,000 seat a night for 3 years straight vs. 5,000 seats now maybe. They barely sold out everynight with REO and Styx....Perry is definately smiling.....And saying Neal said I was the asshole huh? Play on at those State fairs my brother!!!!

Don't really care. Journey has played in front of one million+ fans since Perry left. By my math the score is Journey 1,000,000 Perry 0.

Just so we're clear, can you tell us how many fans Journey played in front of prior to Perry leaving?

I can go out and bang a 100 girls, but if they all suffer from down syndrome or are desperately ugly...It kinda makes me look like a criminal slummer not a stud.

I understand what you mean and I respect it. In some ways I truly understand the idea of 'partial journey is better than no journey at all'. In fact, this was my battle cry for a long time. However, at this point, it really seems like it's doing far more damage than good...

Journey played in front of that many people because of Perry though.

Yeah, but they were still playing songs that Perry made famous, so that means Perry 1,000,000 Journey 0.

It would be different if Journey had ever produced successful material apart from Perry, but they haven't.

To me, that is what they are going for with Arnel, to go back to the "glory days" of Journey and have the popularity they had with Perry. I tolerated Augeri, but Perry IS the voice of Journey. Also, I wanted to throw this out there. the last really big radio hit they had, IMO, was "When You Love A Woman" Are they thinking they can come even close to duplicating it and sell a shitload of albums with someone who just IMITATES Perry?
