Local Man On Trip To Virgin Islands Missing
Police Concerned For Man Who May Have Depression
A man from Middletown has disappeared in the British Virgin Islands.
Benjamin Wu, 29, was last seen near Long Bay in Tortola on Saturday morning. Police said Wu may be suffering from depression, and they are concerned about his current whereabouts. Wu was due to leave the island on Monday. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter has circled an area off Tortola as police and customs officials searched on land in the town of Long Bay, where Wu was last seen walking on Saturday morning.
There was no indication of foul play, said Jim Sandler, a Hartford lawyer and friend. He said the concern was Wu might have fallen into the water while climbing or hiking. Wu was a fearless hiker but could not swim, friends said.
Friends and colleagues gathered on Tuesday night in Bristol to talk about Wu's disappearance.
"Everyone needs to know that there is a human life missing and we need to find it, and we need to bring him home," said Jay Forres, a friend of Wu's.
Wu books bands for the Webster Theatre, a small concert venue in Hartford, and was staying with other theater employees at the home of Justine Robertson, who owns the Webster.
"We've spent every waking minute, every waking second with this," Robertson said.
Wu was attending a friend's wedding when he disappeared.
