“I'm going on record as an artist who is able to critique [Amy Winehouse]. I think she has a great talent, but I don't agree with the Grammys giving her those nods. I think it sends the wrong message, that even in the midst of her stupor of drugs she can get nominated for all these awards. It's a slap in the face to musicians and artists who work very hard that they turn around and give it to someone who really obviously doesn't have a grasp of what she has. I've been in this business over 25 years and I sacrificed five years of my own life on drugs and almost lost my life because of it. So I take great offense to almost see someone getting glory out of being in the position that they're in – she needs to get her life together and embrace her craft, she will lose it if she doesn't get it together.”

Bravo to Natalie Cole!I'm glad she spoke up.
Amy W. is a disgrace. Can't ever forget seeing that Youtube where she was absolutely wasted on stage...Is that a way to treat the people who buy albums and tickets?
No one should get a Grammy (not even a nomination) for something like that.

Yeah, I don't think the music biz has ever been in worse shape than it is today. WTF happened?

one of the DJ's on a indie radio station put it this way... i am glad that the grammys put her art before her personal behavior... and if you think about it that way...she is talanted and deserves the award.
otherwise... think of all the artist who behaved badly including the beattles during their heyday--that they never said boo before---- i think for her its been a double standard...
Rick
This chick is so fucked up half the time, she can't even perform. That is not professional and unworthy of receiving the highest award in the music industry. I guess I'm not cool enough to like her.

She didn't win any Grammies for that. Her awards were for an album recorded over a year ago, and the popularity it generated last year. Her behaviour since then has nothing to do with it.
Btw, I'm trying to think of all the great entertainers that we've seen 'wasted' on stage. Hhhmmm...yep, just about ALL of them.

She looked like the " Tin Man " before they found the can.
True, but I hope I have the energy to even move that much when I'm her age.

Too bad I can't find that Youtube right now...Maybe you haven't seen it.I'm not talking about just simply being drunk,it was worse than that...Stopping in the middle of the song, cussing the audience, stumbling on stage,etc...is not a way to present yourself in front of an audience.I don't care how many wonderful albums she has, that kind of a stage presence is disgusting. She's a woman - that makes it even more disgusting.
She should get some help, then resume her career.
Not sure she can get a free pass just because the hair bands from the '80s used to get on stage high & wasted. They carried their shows until the end.
The only story I know is that of Steven Tyler who fall flat on his face during a show and went straight to rehab from there.
Amy should do the same until she gets her shit together.

Oh I've seen the vid. I know exactly what you're talking about. It's flat out wrong...no doubt. But the awards last night weren't for 'best stage presence' or 'most professional appearance' or 'best sunday school teacher wannabe'. The awards were for songs and an album. They have nothing to do with current or recent behaviour.
And being under the influence on stage wasn't just for 80's hair bands, it's been an industry norm from the Grand Ole Opry 50 yrs ago, through Sinatra, Hendrix, Stones, Doors, Elvis, Zepp, Van Halen, Styx, Nirvana, etc, up to today. But again, stage antics have nothing to do with the Grammy Awards.
I'm glad she won. Her music deserved it.

Say what you will about Amy Winehouse, but she is crazy talented and yes, she's got some problems, but her music alone is bringing back something we all need a return to rhythm and lyrics and meaning.
I'm sure people called Janis Joplin worse names than "crack whore" but her talent is still appreciated.

I still cannot believe he won over Rush, though why that particular Rush instrumental track was nominated over a much better one (The Main Monkey Business), I don't understand. And to think he also beat out Satriani, Vai and Metallica, is a joke, too.
I am a big fan of Springsteen, but winning this category just once again affirmed my frustration with the Grammy Awards.
Rockindeano wrote:All you fuckheads who slam my boy Bruce, you notice he won 3 Grammys?
Yes he still kicks ass.
Congratulations to Bruce Springsteen for his three Grammy Awards:
Best Rock Song and Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance (for "Radio Nowhere"), and Best Rock Instrumental Performance (for "Once Upon A Time In The West", a track from We All Love

Best rock vocal performance? I love Bruce's music but a great singer he surely isn't.

aww, you're wrong. He is a great singer. maybe not a great voice, but great singer. You can say that about BA, and others as well. Voice and singer are two totally different things.
