OT--BOSTON Guitarist Warns HUCKABEE About Using His Music

I have to disagree with that...He's an excellent organ player and much better than average guitarist, in my opinion.

Yeah, he is pretty good. But if he can't eat a tender BBQ baby back rib and marvel at the wonderful taste. He's seriously screwed in the head!

I have to say that I really don't know much about Tom Scholz, as I've never been much of a Boston fan. I realize that Scholz doesn't seem to be well liked, but I really don't have much of a problem with the guy telling Huckabee to stop using his song. Especially if it's a politician that he has zero desire to be affiliated with. I think if I had written that song, I also would have told the preacher to stop giving sermons to my song!

I think you're really missing the point! Obama isn't the one playing a song that the writer doesn't want played, out on the campaign trail. My opinion has nothing to do with politics. I wouldn't vote for Huckabee because I don't believe religious zealots (which he is one) belong in The White House! That said, my opinion about him using Boston's song without permission has absolutely nothing to do with how I feel about the guy, politically!

I'm a big Boston fan, and I agree with Scholz on this one, but he's sued everyone he knows at one time or another.

And to Conversationpc, I do agree he does play the keys well, but I don't think he's all that on the axe. I think he's more into the sound his guitar has than his ability on it. He definitely has a sweet sounding guitar. I used to have one of his Rockman devices.

the one good thing i can say is out of the four or five albums of boston material most of the time its well worth the wait on new material.the only thing i really haven't heard is the corporate america album but anything else before that i really liked even if it was every eight years between releases.

I think he's much better than he's given credit for. He's certainly not on the technical level of a Vai or Satriani but he's no slouch and knows how play a good melodic solo.

Scholz is one of the most technically proficient guitarists in the world. He is not a speed demon like Malmsteen, but there is more to being a great player than dexterity and quickness. One of my professors played "Hollyann" for a composition class, and used to say it was the gold standard for perfect musicianship. His hooks may sometimes be repetetive, but there is no doubt he is a master axeman.

Technically, the dude is brilliant. He went to MIT and designed a whole line of electronic effects and the like. He has written some good songs and has what the best debut album ever? My meaning was that his guitar skills are just average. As Dave pointed out, he does play the keys pretty damn well.

Scholz may not be an incredible guitarist, but he's an incredible musician. He's played every instrument at least once on Boston recordings, right? Plus his songwriting's very solid. Love the production on Boston albums, and all the different interesting tones and crunches that come from his axe.
