Theres alot of people who doesnt think he sucked tonight. Its just a matter of opinion. I thought he did great. Maybe a little shaky at first, but in the middle he did good.

In the center of the page, there is an area that lists 1, 2, 3, etc. down the right side. Click #2 to see a quick synopsis of the performance. Both great audio and video.

Come on...That's not a fair-minded opinion, though.

stevew2 wrote:That being said, how can you account for the fact that he sucked tonight, he had plenty of time to practice, been singin other peoples tunes for 20 plus years?? whtf? He was out of breath, He wont be able to cover Journey this summer {as I said before} Journey made the wrong choice, period, and each concert will prove it. Quote me on that again

How many people said that after Augeri's and JSS's first show? The first recording of JSS was generally accepted as horrendous, and Augeri wasn't much better. This forum probably would have wanted to blast Perry kicking and screaming to the curb after his first show. How's THAT for a visual?!?

Seriously, Arnel's voice strengthened considerably after the first few songs, and his voice is naturally higher than either Augeri or JSS. Discarding the first few songs where nerves would have been going full blast....out of breath MAY have something to do with running around the stage. The Any Way You Want It clip on youtube has him at a full sprint on one of the verses. By nature, that's going to make your voice a little jumpy. There's places on the later songs where he goes higher than the recorded versions on some parts. You don't do that if you are worried about your voice not finishing the show.

The first half of the concert was far from perfect...I'll give you that. From Lights/OA onward though, he sounded like a different person. My guess is that OA gave him a chance to relax and just sing, since he's done that song a lot. That means confidence, and will show an immediate effect in his voice. If we are still having this conversation after about 15-20 shows where he is stressed, then you might be on to something. I just doubt it. He has the range, it's the nerves that we are discussing. Those will get under control with a few more shows, or Journey has a serious problem.

Unfortunately, it's VERY possible that the Vegas dvd may have a lot of re-recorded vocals if he comes out nervous like he did in Chile. It wouldn't be the first time that has happened either... Whoever came up with the moronic plan of filming a dvd after less than 5 shows needs to be shot. I'm REALLY surprised that Journey didn't play about 10 or so warm up dates in clubs with little to no advertising before throwing the guy to the wolves.

Dude, you are high...
It was the guy's first show out of the gate. He messed up some lyrics... but he sang some notes I NEVER heard out of ANY of Journey's previous singers (yeah, HIM too). The guy did a great job.

This takes NOTHING away from Jeremey by the way, who is also a vocal great, but he didn't take the gig.
Arnel did a great job. There were spots with missed lyrics, but vocally, the guy had what it took to do the job.

Pretty much much what I had thought.

PS- you Annexians who thought he was bad. Don't lie to yourselves. He BLOWS Hunsicker out of the fucking water. You folks should parade that wackjob Sallee in here, and that littel redheaded pete n repeat to add to the "no" vote.

You all lost tonight. Enjoy the bar sized Frontiers shows.

Whoaa there mule. First of all, I have no issues with the man's nationality. I'm not like that, so please don't state things which are untrue about people you don't know. I was open minded to give him a listen AND I viewed every you tube video from Pineda before last nights concert AND thought he had improved. Secondly, you can have your opinion on Arnel and Jeremey, but I happen to not share the same opinion. Get over it, ok? I've respected your thoughts and opinions on this board ever since I became a member of MR. Is it too much to ask to return that same respect? At least for me, there is no competition. If you'd rather spend hundreds of dollars on a Journey concert, then that's fine. I hope it's well worth it. I am just fine spending $15 on a Frontiers concert. So, I don't believe I've really lost anything since I'm not competing in anything.

Dean, scared of what exactly? :? I'm not speaking for all loons, but I gave each new singer since Perry a fair chance and listen. Why do you think JSS won over so many Perry die-hards? IMO I think it was because, like Perry, he brought something unique to the table.....wasn't trying to be/sound like anybody else......again, I'm not speaking for all loons. I just don't hear/see the soul and delivery in SA and AP's vocals that I do in SP and JSS's.......it really is just that simple. I think AP has great pipes and will do a really good job. And truth be told, if they played here who knows, I just may even go out of curiousity. Just doesn't WOW me. I remember even after seeing/hearing the first few boots of Journey w/JSS......my first thoughts were......RIGHT ON! Journey's got a killer frontman again! Range, smange. For me, it's all about throwing those great tunes out there with the soul and passion they deserve. And IMO, JSS brought it in spades.

Arnel's gonna make it, man. He's been a singer in a smoky room for 20 years, doing three-hour sets of demanding material day in and out. He's conditioned and ready to go. Journey as a whole probably won't last another ten years, but if they did, Arnel would last right with 'em. At least after Journey peters out, Arnel will have the band on his resume and will be able to take his own career other places.
