When I speak I catch myself saying "you know" all the time. I have to be better about stopping that. I think my family just deals with it. Spelling errors drive me crazy. I used to get this newletter in the mail from a car salesperson, and it was riddled with errors. I just couldn't believe she would send this letter out to her potential customers. I work in publishing, and I finally couldn't help myself. I took out the red pen and edited the newsletter. I mailed it back to the woman, with the suggestion that she have a professional editor review her work. I never got another annoying newsletter again!

Another thing that bugs me is "nite." It's "night" people! Are we that lazy that we can't learn to spell correctly?

Not really. "Bold-faced" is a term that's been in use for over four centuries. The other one is an evolution. It only became "legitimate" because everyone kept fucking it up to the point where they knew what the person meant when they said it, and is therefore derivative.

Although, in looking up that ^ up, I found out that neither are actually recognized by the Oxford English Dictionary and apparently the correct spelling is "barefaced" (which I also disagree with, but whatever). The only one that makes any sense is "bold-faced". Bold, as in something obvious such as bold-faced type on a page... an obvious, or bold-faced lie.

I just thought of another phrase that gets under my skin...

"shits and giggles"

Example..."Just for shits and giggles, I looked it up online."

So does that mean you took a shit, giggled, then looked it up online?

I'm afraid to ever post again. :D
My husband is an editor and the boss they hired over him had errors in her resume! He's always talking back at the t.v. when he hears such things as, "it's VERY unique" (never use very or really before unique) or "we could've WENT to the concert" (it's "we could've gone").

I met this very hot Japanese chick a few months ago but what got really old fast was every time she'd send me an instant message over the net, it would always contain "ru" as in "how ru doing" or "what ru up to", "ru going clubing tonight" etc. I got sick and tired of that "ru" bullshit in short order. She must have learned her entire English vocabulary from reading personalized license plates or something because she had a slew of words that she broke down into single charactors and would message me like that. The only one she used that I didn't mind her using however was "oooo" which meant "it feels good."
I've never eaten a piece of sushi I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

I fuckin h8 when ppl type like this. How lazy do u have 2 b?!
Its a PITA 2 try 2 read. If ur that lazy, don't b on the net at all.

Maybe its just that I'm more articulate and used to conveying thoughts in a proper manner, I don't know, but to me, typing all that stupid shorthand shit is harder. I have a friend who does that in emails and IMs also. She uses "u" and "ur" and "r u" constantly.

One of the schools I went to was Radford University, RU for short... so you can imagine a lot of the marketing was centered around that... "RU... gonna enroll for Maymester?" "RU in Greek Life?" "RU in need of a roommate?" Ick. Nightmarish.

There was a scene from Futurama:

Fry: Christmas, you know... X-M-A-S...
Leela: Oh, you mean X-mas. You must be using an archaic pronounciation. Like how you say "ask" instead of "aks".

On a similar note...maybe when they gave birth they had an "epidermal" instead of an epidural.
