Spot on. Ironic how the golden throated one has Uncle Joe, Nuno, Lukather, Pack and fucking GUFF all tell us how he "still has it" yet we are relegated to background vocals, computerized vocals, and him turning down Reba McEntyre. If you have it, but you don't use it, why tell us? :?

"Scraping?" How so? You still think there's going to be a TBF tour, don't you?   Some of you just don't get it. This guy always has things pre-planned. He's always a few steps ahead of everyone else, and the funny thing is that they usually don't even know it. For proof, see Journey circa 1983, 1986, 1996. Hey, I still maintain the guy can sing. I have always maintained that. I just think that he uses people like little pawns to perpetuate whatever it is that he wants, but when an "A-lister" like Reba comes a calling, he ducks and runs. I mean, after all, why would he want to sing on Reba's NUMBER ONE album when he can remake a Journey song from an ill-fated tour with a power house like GUFF.

Agree on both counts about the still being able to sing AND the using the myth of it as a pawn to maintain the mystique.

But I'd be proud of him if he overcame the phobia to get a new album out and would not bash him for doing so.

I just re-read your "relic" post, 13 and I've gotta admit, the visual I had made me laugh out loud at work. Nice work.

That's the part that baffles a lot of us. Most here, myself included, think he does still have it, chooses to awkwardly perpetuate that notion, but won't prove it by singing. :?

Thanks for posting Andrew. I've seen them in concert and each player is tops at what they do in their respective position...including vocalist Bobby! Not too many people would have the chops(or the guts!) to step on a stage with any one of these guys....

Well, what'd you know, I open this thread again today, and it's the same 2 usual suspects that's stirring the pot. Yes, Red13 and SJ. When are you guys going to learn? SP is his own man. No amount of bullying and badgering is going to make him want to sing for us.

SJ, I'm disappointed in you :x :? . I thought we had an understanding last night that you will stop with the SP baiting. Red13 is hopeless, but you, at least, LOVE STEVE PERRY. Right?

This is an opinion board and I state my opinions. Hey, I make inferences on what I know, what I've heard and read, and by making educated guesses. I'll be the first to admit that my opinions are nothing more than GUESSES. I don't know Steve Perry and have no desire to stalk him, pray to the God of septum, or otherwise. But I will admit that I find the topic of him, Journey, and their antics one of my favorites. I apologize if that in some way causes you duress. I'd tell you to grow some balls, but I don't think I really want that to happen. :P Also, if you think I'm "badgering and bullying" him you're not hitting on all 8 cylinders. Comments like that tend to make me visualize you sitting at the breakfast table staring at a gallon of orange juice because it says "concentrate." And I know you're smarter than that.

It's one thing to have an opinion but quite another to be so nasty in stating your opinion. Annie isn't the only one who notices and is disappointed by the baiting and name calling.

And, no, I don't need to grow balls.

You say "nasty" and I say "colorful." I try to state what I feel to be the case and never try to purport it as "fact." I'll use facts to build and/or bolster my case, but that's about it. Additionally, complaining and/or pointing out internet "rough housing" is like opening a tabloid magazine and complaining about the content. You simply have to concede that there is going to be a certain amount of buffoonery, that I will openly admit I participate in, going on. You choose to be here, Lora. I plan on changing for no one. And while you might not "need to grow balls," maybe you need to take your ball and go home. This board seems to be getting to you.

Saint John-Dan- you have your opinions and I have mine. If you're going to sprout off, I have just as much right to refute. It is not a matter of growing balls, just having decorum. But I know better than to get into a battle of words with you. After all, you are the king of "colorful" language--a little Deano, actually. Remember when you first came to this board during the height of Tapegate? Like a bull in a china shop--guns blazing, calling for SA's head and SP to come back. Haha, someone called you a Deano Wannabe.

Yes, this is only a messageboard, where fans of all personalities and backgrounds come together to post about our favorite singer/band. Unless you are one of the "in" people who have gotten together for concerts, we are just anonymous posters. I'm afraid I will never be among the crowd because you will never see me go to a Journey concert, unless it is with SP. That is, when hell freezes over.

And that last comment about me sitting at the kitchen table staring at a carton of O.J., I honestly don’t know how you came to that conclusion about me. Really, you need to do better than that. Maybe Deano can give you some ideas. Or LarryFND. He’s seen my photo.

The "growing balls" comment had a :P after it. If it offended you I apologize. I've never tried to be anyone but myself. If you meet me in person you'll realize that. I have been to multiple gatherings and plan on attending many more. And yes, I too ish Steve Perry would return to Journey...seems unlikely though. As for my last comment, it too was meant in jest. However, your assertion that I'm "bullying and badgering" Perry was absurd. I responded with a similarly ridiculous remark and I shouldn't have. Apologies again. That wasn't my "conclusion" about you, either. You need to learn to decipher when someone is kidding. Have a great day (and yes, I really mean that). 8)

Was sp "his own man" before or after he put the band on indefinate hiatus by not quitting, not committing, not addressing it all with them in 87? Was he "his own man" before after he tried to do the exact same thing in '97, mothballing the band by being in it yet refusing to actually work?
Was he "his own man" before or after he made Cain make the call to fire Walter Herbert?

I'm not trying to bully or badger him into singing again, as I don't care if he does or doesn't again.
And your disappointment in SJ is one of the very traits I admire most about the kid. His objectivity. He's as big a fan of perry's singig as there is here (and he's got me on that one), yet is able to separate that from the mounds of evidence that point to the conclusion that he was a walking prick with ears as a bandmate and did everything he could to sabotage it from the inside.

And here's where I'm throwing perry a bone:

I STILL think he was referring only to early on with that comment, maybe like the whole Rolie era while he was there. I think it was a trick of editing.

Eh, I don't know. Luke was championing(is that a word?) Eddie Van Halen's playing at the last rehearsal. I have not seen or heard a single audio or video clip that support the assessment that EVH has still 'Got it'.

Methinks a bit of cheerleading is involved.

Having said that, Luke is DA MAN.

Luke is a great player, but he's no Neal Schon. Schon's body of work compared to Luke's is like comparing Marsha Brady to Marsha Warfield.

I'm a huge fan of both but this is crazy. Luke has played on just about everything, and coming from me, whose biggest influence stylistically is Schon, Luke honestly has better technique than Neal. I'm not sure Neal himself would even deny that. Luke would never drag Neal, SP, EVH, or anyone else down, especially publicly, because truly professional musicians don't do that (besides assholes like Yngwie Malmsteen). So I'll speak for him and say that Luke has every right to be considered one of Schon's equals, in terms of how prolific his playing is (literally hundreds of records), technique, and influence. Schon's playing might appeal/touch/hit you more, and that's totally fine, but you can't say Schon's "body of work" beats out Luke's. You just can't. We're talking about two of the best guitarists of all time here, no need to pit them against one another.

Easy, cowboy. I just think that Schon's solo material is far better than Luke's. I On U, Voice, Beyond The Thunder and Piranha Blues just to name a few, exemplify him as one of the all-around greats. Luke is great too.

Beyond the Thunder is one of the most listenable solo guitar CDs ever recorded, imo. I love my Satch, Eric Johnson, Yngwie, Vai to an extent, Petrucci etc, but I can only listen to a few tracks before I get burnt out on the style. Beyond the Thunder gets played all the way through almost every time. I definitely prefer Schon solo to Luke solo. When you said "body of work" I thought you were referring more to Schon's career credits versus Luke's career credits, ya know? But yea, both great players, two of my favorites, maybe THE two.

Locked for what???? There's nothing over the top about this thread. Nothing.

No, nothing over the top or abusive here. SJ, apology accepted. People do know me as being a hypersensitive person, but like all persons with unique traits, we all have our own little quirks that only acquaintances pick up. I never meant to insinuate you were a "bad" person. Just getting in my little "digs" in my own unique way. The old saying, "if you're going to dish it out, you have to take it, too." I think it applies to ALL of us. Peace
