Postby sniper16 » Wed Mar 19, 2008 11:15 pm

when reo released thier 3 cd/dvd set thru wal mart . they went on a 2 week bus tour of midwest radio stations, and really got the word out that they were still a viable band and had new songs out. and im sure helped the sales of the new cd.
if neal and jon are reading take a page from reo.

Great idea, but I think it's too late as their tour schedule is all but finalized. I love the concept, though. 8)

Perry, Schlong and Yeastboy did a radio tour following the release of TBF with the same goals in mind. Then, the singer had an 'accident'.

Maybe Schlong, Yeastboy and Arnie can do the same thing...

They need to promote the crap out of it. Don't know that radio will support new music from a band of this era with its 3rd recorded vocalist. Most DJ's (eg. uncle joe benson) are Perry loyalists. I heard him giving Journey shit the other day following LTS. Said something about them "being on their 4th(?) singer and they just re-recorded the greatest hits", then went on to question: "think they're trying to cut someone out of royalties? Hm?".

They have an uphill battle for sure, but I expect them to use You Tube as the new radio myself.

If they can effectively "cut Perry from the royalties," I would love to see Perry go re record the classics himself, and fuck Neal and Jon in the ass. I can guarantee you Perry rerecords would outsell Journey rerecords 4-1.

Then out of nowhere, Flieschman/Tickner/Jackson/Smith/Rolie all decide to re-record the classics, and we have a full-fledged Journey war on our hands.

No argument here. I wonder if they "can" cut him out of royalties entirely though? I mean he is a listed songwriter on every freakin' song, right? Re-recording them shouldn't matter. Then again, I'm pretty sure Perry could care less about the money at this point.

Considering they were only on about 4 tracks total off the GH's, it would be more like an EP than and LP. :D

Even still, they don't hold copyrights on the songs. Although, makes you wonder how Chalfant did his tribute album. Bottom line of course is, anyone can do whatever they want. They just have to hope the copyright holders opt to not take them to court over it.

REO blows. Cronin is a complete rattle trap.
NO ONE should follow their lead.

Well, unless they want to cover 'Back On the Road Again', REO's best song...and that's a stretch.

There's a video on YouTube of REO Speedwagon having an unplugged jam with Styx and Journey. During "Roll With The Changes" both Jon and Neal get some cool solos. Check it out.

Even if Perry doesn't get a cut of the CD in terms of general profits, he'll get paid for being a songwriter. Or they'd be in violation of how these things work. So Perry profits indirectly.

You're right...but it would just be a remaster of his vocals with new backing.

Perry has the green tree tunes from Journey, that's why Journey is the one who has to re-record. Everyone will continue to use Perry as the unit of measure. You can't mimmick the majic and the originality of those tunes. Dean doesn't have the swing and the soul that Steve had. Neal is playing the notes, but the emotion is not there. Journey is it's own tribute band now.

Besides this, the sales of this new project will not even come close to the sales of the repackaged stuff in the past. Radio does not play new recordings of legacy artists. The stations that DO are not in the top markets. Radio is not as effective anyway. Not like it used to be. If they had done this the year Perry left...maybe it would have been received. I still doubt it. Bands usually don't survive multiple singers and years between hits. There just aren't any to name as proof otherwise.

Nah, I'm saying don't act like your Journey best buds, then roast them in front of millions. I dunno, I thought it was pretty crappy of them after Journey kind of gave them the exclusive debut of the Augeri team. I mean, when they were in their studio, they saw how good Augeri was and made tons of comments about how he was great. I just looked at it as kind of kicking them when they were down. If they were journalists, I guess I could see it, but they're the morning zoo/drivetime knuckleheads and ... I dunno. I thought they should just shut up. I know you will disagree, that's cool too.

Hadn't seen that.

Been thinkin this a long time but hearing Schon and Shaw together confirmed it. Time for a new supergroup - kind of a Damn Yankees on High Octane...Schon Shaw Blades Castronovo even Uncle Teddy if possible...how about throwing in Paul Rogers for good measure. I'm there!

I couldn't agree more. The same would probably happen if Perry ever decided to tour again.
