I've known a few, but they scare me... They were also into sword collecting and D&D...

Love his work, I need to get his solo stuff in addition to my five Winger albums.

This...from a prog rocker?

Have you listened to Pull and/or IV? Those albums are about as prog as "hair metal" can get, and even then the first two albums have amazing instrumental ability on display and some very challenging "prog" moments.

Every Story Told sounds like a great track. I'd buy it if it was available as a single download.

Where Will You Go sounds very Beetles inspired. Nothing sounds like Winger trying to be heavy but doesn't come off as genuine. Not as crazy about these, but the first one sounds killer.

Kip's solo stuff has really never been heavy. It's really hard to pin down into something specific, because it's really unique. His first solo album This Conversation Sounds Like A Dream is really cool, but really just has it's own vibe. Not really pop, definitely not hard rock... There is an updated version of the song "Monster" on the new disc. His 2nd disc, Songs From The Ocean Floor is different from the first, but still very much it's own thing -- hard to pin down what it is to me, but it's great. I think he saves all the heavy stuff for Winger.

kip isn't one of my biggest fans. back around 1990, i produced a few flyers for winger. that was the beginning of the digital publishing age. i had moved beyond physically cutting & pasting halftones, but still had to send photographs out to service bureaus to get scanned into digital files, which i would place into a digital layouts. it was not common for designers to have their own scanners as professional ones were in the $5,000+ range. a designer i was working with at the time, just bought one of the first, less-expensive, consumer models. he insisted that the quality would be plenty good enough for the small b/w image i was including on the flyer & that i would save lots of money if he did the scan. the result was this conversation when i met kip for the first time:

me: hi kip, i'm cyndy poon from fan asylum.
kip: did you make this flyer? it looks like shit! it looks like "meet the beatles" or something.
me: :(

fast forward 12 years later. i go to a winger/cinderella/poison/faster pussycat show at konocti harbor. i'm hanging out on a deck behind winger's dressing rooms, enjoying the view of the water. there aren't many people around & i'm not in anyone's way. i get this creepy feeling that someone's watching me. i glance over my shoulder & see kip, sitting a few tables away, staring at me. he has no idea who i am or why i'm there, so i thought i'd leave & give him a little privacy, as it seems like i was making him uncomfortable. as i start walking towards the exit he gets up, cuts me off & blocks the doorway. the next conversation goes like this:

kip: you look familiar. we've met before.
me: hi kip, i'm cyndy poon from fan asylum.
kip: you're still in business?!?
me: :(

despite this double-dose of humiliation, i still like his music.

Winger is an asshole.

He isn't good enough to be an asshole. Neal is good enough at what he does so I guess he can be an asshole, but Kip fucking Winger? Um....no.

If I ever see that prick I will walk up to him and punch him in his pearly white's and say, "Hi Kip, I'm Rockindeano. Cyndy Poon from Fan Asylum says Hi."

I will say Kippy does have white chicletts.

oh, let me clarify. i wasn't offended by him & i didn't take his criticism personally. the flyer DID look like shit & i appreciated his honesty. it was awkward, because his bluntness caught me off-guard. i have no bitterness towards him at all. i laugh when i think about what happened! his personality kinda reminds me of dave mustaine. now that guy can be brutally honest!

I've never met Cyndy, but I once heard someone say that she's one of the most beautiful women you'll ever meet. So, yeah, he probably was hitting on her.

I did hear that, and hoped it would make her feel better after 'Kip' (what kind of name is that anyway?) dissed her the way he did.

OK..I do not keep up with Winger at all..their image/nada. Watching The Station Family Fund on VH1 right now..Winger is on..is that Kip still singing for them? If so..kudos for losing the 'hot image' :P
If that's him still lead singing..wow..he looks very different..almost like he's trying to be a ugly rock star.
