Prog, I think the place to start with these guys is (obviously) the NATURE OF THE BEAST album. It was in heavy rotation during my formative years...

...and did you just name-check the MICHAEL STANLEY BAND???? You sir, are a man among boys!!!! Those guys were very cool (LOVED the HEARTLAND album!) Saw them open for Cheap Trick on the ALL SHOOK UP tour. Good times, indeed...

I saw April Wine 2 years ago in Vermont, it was an amazing show. I highly, highly recommend seeing these guys live. I guess they have a new bass player now though. Oh, and the drummer is one of the hardest hitting guys ive ever seen, great player, great solo.

Neither have I. Someone care to suggest an album for starters and give some background?

I saw them last month in Vermont and they were great!!!...Deb is the Kasey Kasem of MR (well...Kasey Kasem if he knew music [lame example, sorry]). If she likes a band (especially a Canadian one), I'm usually not disappointed.

Like X factor suggests, try Nature of the Beast for starters...lots of great tracks. "Crash & Burn" is as hard as they rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcwaOvOPP2o

My favorite tune is "Big City Girls": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OWDaxEhzY4 (obviously the Scorpions had heard this one too)

"Say Hello" from Harder Faster has an early solo Plant feel to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV6UJ17qNJg

Hopefully I've furthered your education.

How can anyone living in Central Ohio NOT know about the Michael Stanley Band? My dad and I ran into Michael Stanley at a White Castle about ten years back. I had no clue who he was at the time and didn't pay much attention to him but my dad chummed it up with him for fifteen minutes or so... class act guy, from what I remember. I got an education when I got home though, when dad whipped out the Heartland vinyl. 8)
