So what you saying Majik is that Neal is living in the past by trying to recreate the Perry sound. So now you want to live further in the past with Gregg Rolie???? That makes no sense.

Gregg is fantastic and I am a huge fan of Infinity, Evolution, and Departure, but he moved on and now jams out with his phenomenal band. Alfonso Johnson is one of the best bass players in the business. I wish he would throw in a couple Journey songs into his set.

Escape and Frontiers are my favorite Journey records and it is what brought the band super-stardom.

To a lesser degree I enjoy the first three records before Perry, but if they went back to that prog era stuff they would piss off so many people and they could probably only play to 200 people a night.

There are die-hard fans of every era of this great band and some will accept nothing but that particular product. This includes Soto and Robert Fleishman. At least Fleishman wrote some songs with the band. Anytime you take such a beloved band and make changes you will leave some fans behind, but the hate and anger this band causes is news to me.

I like both versions of ASIA. The John Wetton and John Payne eras, but they are so different that I thought they should have changed the name, but there’s no reason to go monkey crazy over it.

Dude, I think you're wrong here. Rolie launched that rocket to the moon with Journey. Cain was lucky enough to step on board just before she sat down on the moon. I'm not under rating Cain's contribution, I just think Rolie was a huge part of the success of that band.

Enigma869 wrote:With all due respect to Gregg Rolie, Journey's ascent to superstardom can be directly attributable to the phenomenal song writing team of Perry and Cain! As brilliant as Perry was, vocally, I give Cain a HUGE amount of credit for writing brilliant songs. I'm not sure we would have seen many of those tracks had Rolie not left the band!

John from Boston

p.s. Perry isn't coming back. Smith isn't coming back. Rolie isn't coming back. Augeri isn't coming back. Soto isn't coming back, and Arnel probably isn't staying, so get used to the Journey shuffle

cain got all the spoils after all the hardest work was already done.sort of like what would happen if someone else built a house and all you did was screw a few light bulbs in after it was complete.the road was paved for cain all he had to do was ride smoothly and he was set.

Hey majik, I'm with you: The Gregg/Perry era was probably the finest era of Journey for me. But no incarnation of Journey with Neal involved is a cover band, no fuckin way. I don't care if William Hung is manning the mic up front... if Neal's there, you sure as shit better not call it a cover band

I think Def Leppard gets about $350,000 per state fair. I don't know what kind of a draw Rolie is, so its hard to say

Journey today are cashing in re-recording classics, thats cool if you like that sort of thing, I don't. Schon is resting on past glories and if he is going to do that he may as well go further back into the past and get Gregg back. Getting a clone and pushing all his buttons to get the Perry-isms is bull-shit. Like I said it doesn't matter how good the new CD is give the band a new name at least.

Steve Lukather recently took a look around the stage and thought is this really Toto anymore and now is winding the band up. That takes guts and is the right thing to do with Journey, its over. I heard a recent clip of a new song on you tube and it was totally by numbers and and sounded oh so familiar too, a re-hash with different lyrics.

The only thing the nay sayers have going here and its has been milked is my typo ha ha! big deal who needs spell check when you guys are here. As for being in the past WTF I listen to my music here and NOW bro" the recording is from the past DOH !

As a member of the record buying public I'm entitled to say its a rip off and being satisfied with sub standard is not the way to push creativity. No wonder the music scene is in tatters if people is satisfied with clones and a cover band. Wake up.

Edit: spell corection, Toetoe should read Toto. Grow up 12 year olds .

Probably closer to $100k. State Fairs rarely sell concert tickets for more than $40 each, and the maximum capacity is probably 10,000 for the majority of them. The average draw for a band like Def Leppard at a State Fair is probably around 6,000. That would only amount to $240k for the entire take - nowhere near enough to pay one band $350k.

See the thing is open minded people are able to appreciate good musicianship without the politics. The new Journey is obviously delivering the goods. Arnel can definitely sing, theres no argument about that. People that are open to the new Journey are happy people and are having alot of fun at the shows. Its just too bad that there are some people that are soo closed minded that theyre not able to enjoy the band that they once loved anymore. So have fun listening to your old records and reminisce about what once was. I know Im looking forward to seeing the new Journey in concert. And whats wrong with Neil for wanting Journey to sound like Journey?

I would actually consider driving the 5 hours to see GR (unless he's stopping by here... I haven't checked...LOL!). The ISF website says they aren't posting the music lineup until 4/23 though... was this on Rolie's website or myspace page?

Naa, how long has Neal been looking for that special quality? A good long while. There aren't many out there that sound like Perry. He's very special.
