I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I tried hypermiling for a month -- it was really a completely different way to drive my car, and was kinda fun! I was actually amazed at how many places in my regular route I could coast for upwards of a mile or more without touching the pedal or losing speed. Now the cutting off the engine thing while coasting, I found to be flat out dangerous as you lose power brake capability.

But -- after a month of really trying to get the most of it, I think I only got maybe 3 mpg more, and decided that it wasn't worth my effort. Some may have better results than I did.

Nig, use cruise control, I do it on the highway or beltway, and I get 32 MPG with a V6 try it. Keep your foot off the pedal, makes a big difference
