I understand it's all about promoting JRNY as they are now, but this revisionist history thing is annoying. And "the magic is back"??? Back???? They had magic with Augeri for 8 damn years and tossed it when he got sick.
Magic, my ass...only if "magic" is now defined as "a young guy who can keep my old ass on the road 8 more years".
The band had struggled for many years with a singer in poor vocal health and had to eventually resort to becoming a Madonna-like stage show with prerecorded vocals and front of house trickery. However you feel about him, JSS' short tenure in the band didn't vocally replicate what those in the band obviously felt was their traditional signature sound. I think the point was that they felt re-energized with a familiar and capable sound behind the microphone that they didn't have to worry was going to crap out from one night to the next.
Noted. But, the band still gave the same soundbytes about Augeri & JSS. "We're better than ever...", "The magic is back...", "We sound better than ever...", blah blah blah. Augeri's vocal health aside (which I am convinced could have been avoided), he was still dropped like a bad habit when JSS began getting good reviews. Then JSS is turn was dropped in favor of "the signature sound"? After Neal went on record saying the songs sounded better than ever? After he was made "official" lead vocalist? I call shenannigans. As was stated, way to write off the last 10 years.
Good luck, Arnel. Piss off, Journey. As good as some of the new songs are, this is where I get off.
I'm sure the seat will still be warm on the bus as soon as you decide to jump back on..after all it IS like hot potato or musical chairs in here. "I love Journey I love Journey I love Journey...I hope Journey burns....Journey Rocks!...Damn you Journey...I hate Journey...Journey LIVES!!"
Of course the draw of this all is indeed...Arny's story. We ALL knew this as soon as his hiring months upon months ago. The story is continuing to grow, and it's growing into a GREAT Cinderella story that EVERYONE can love. From the CBS piece, I don't see the huffing and puffing about. About the magic bitching..it makes sense. With Steve Augeri, it gave the audience a notion that Steve Perry was still in the band, when really they were madly mistaken. Augeri gave 8 years to the band, but the last 5 years was a hit and miss touring rampage that left Journey fading away year after year (Lipping, Tapegate, handouts of Generations..) until Finally he had to step out ON TOUR! For JSS he was brought in for Christ sakes and wasn't even looked at or was NEVER a considering to front the band until the desperation stage. They felt the pressure, rushed him as new singer, and set themselves up for something they never wanted. Not only did they lose their lead singer in mid tour, they had to get rid of one that they didn't feel was right for the job. So of course the MAGIC was never there with Augeri and Soto. The whole thing was a shit fest.
With Arnel it gives them good story...a Cinderella story if you will, who people can relate to. Plus it's a great thing for them that he is from another country of the Philippines. It gives the separation of the band and for the fan base to not really HOLD ONTO the past AS MUCH as they had to the past several years. It gives them a good edge, and gives them a better future to rely on. It's just change, and a different one. It's going to be the change for the better in the long-run with the Arnel hiring. Look around.. the world has a new interest of this band because of all those things just mentioned. (Ellen, CBS, Best week ever..etc.)
Whatever was said on the morning show to piss people off to that degree I don't know. What was said was nothing new, and if anything was a respecting bit.
Some people on this Earth were just BORN TO BITCH.
