Was gonna hit it for lunch today. I'm gonna be sad to leave this place - we have the best food over here.

Does it have a Barnelli's too? The one on Golf in Schaumburg does and I <3 it. The other ones near me don't. They have some crazy good alfredo too. :)

I think this thread turned into the Food Network...lol. Nig, that shop name "the fractured prune" has an interesting beginning I see...named after a woman in the 1800s named Prunella Shriek. :) They had the best names back then.

No, this thread has turned into the "I heart the food in Chicago" discussion, with a slight detour of donuts.

...Did someone say CHEESECAKE? :D

Well, it was bound to happen somewhere. The Thread Ninjas are on the loose again.

And omg, (Eli's) Cheesecake Factory.... the Shepherd's Pie is the best winter comfort food.
And being Chicago, it should be winter here in about another 10 minutes so....

From what I have read there will be a "outlet store" in the neighborhood once the bakery is closed down.

Keith made that the code for the garage opener... so before I had the clicker thing and had to do it manually, I was twice per day, standing outside going "One eight hundred, five eight-eight... two three hundred.... EMPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE, today." :x

...All my life hearing that? No thanks!!! I just told my boss (who is from Pittsburgh originally) he said the same thing happened to him too when he first moved here. I just wish one time in that commercial the old man would accidentally end up UNDER the hardwood flooring as they're tossing it about the room.

I can't believe you said that - I thought the same thing about a week or two ago when I saw that damn commercial... "Omg, we'll never be rid of that guy!"

And Rhi... for years with the original ad, because it was local, it was just five eight-eeeeiiight... twoooo threeeeee hundred.... EMPIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE.... over and over and over and over and over and over and over. You won't find a native born who doesn't want to string the Empire Carpet guy up by his pecker and beat him with a Louisville Slugger.

Shit, that was when our only area code was "312" and they didn't even need that part.

And now there's what... 312, 773, 847, 630, 708, 815...

EMPIIIIIIIIIIRE!!

Omg... the first one they added was 708 - in the 80s, and my god people went nuts.
TWOOOOO area codes? I have to dial an area code to get my friend who lives 2 miles away!?!

You'd have thought the wold was ending, esp. for those whose number changed. Then 847 showed up and no one could remember which 'burbs were 708 vs. 847. THEN they split Chicago metro into 312 and 773 and the complaints about that went on for a year and a half. I had a boss who used to ask me EVERY day which area code clients' numbers were in.

815 happened after I moved away - my aunt sent me her new number and I was like "Did you move to Wyoming or some shit? Where's 815?"

Yeah, when did THAT shit start? After I moved back, for 3 months I thought that was out of state. Finally I asked someone, "did we get another area code?" That's for eastern IL, right??

I've got most of it down in relation to my life... 312 = clients in the loop. 773 = friends in the city & clients not in the loop but still in the city. 847 = home & everybody i see regularly. 630 = band member's cell phones. and 815 = the boonies.

I moved to a city that has more area codes than the entire state that I came from has. :P

Yep, Empire is on commercials here and I was taken aback when I first heard it. It's not as annoying as the mattress commercial guys or Michael's furniture - ugh!

So, what do you think of the Chicago accent?

oh, look what I found on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBtu9vVH-x4&NR=1

My best "make fun of the Chicago accent" phrase:

"Look der in da tree. Der's tree birds in da tree. No, youse can see it from da batchroom." :P

Also, because of the people I hang out with up here, I still have most of my southern accent, HOWEVER more and more of it is starting to sound a little Chicagoish. With certain Irish and Greek catchphrases I've been taught in the past few months thrown into the mix. Hearing me talk anymore is like a whirlwind of speeches.

I almost believed you. But nope...

The Empire Man was originally portrayed on television by Lynn Hauldren, who continues to provide the voice of the animated character

Chicago trivia - that jingle has been around since 1977.

There's a whole paragraph just about the jingle...lol!!
