Not to mention that a woman always breaks some poor hillbilly's heart. For just once, I'd like to hear a country song where a guy has 4 girlfriends on the side, gets drunk and tunes up his wife once in a while, wins the lottery and leaves the bitch. That might make me listen, but Jesus H. Christ I'm tired of some redneck with a drawl whining over some skinny, barefoot bitch that left him.

Something like 200k+ the first week?
later~
The Eagles are not a rock band by any stretch so the comparison is not really valid. They are a great pop band, but their live dvd proved that beyond any doubt that they are not rockers...zzzzzzzz I would expect a main stream pop band like the Eagles to outsell a more rock type of outfit. Granted, Journey ain't Van Halen, but the Eagles are to rock what Cheeze Whiz is to Bleu des Causses. Jesus...the Eagles?!?!?! WTF is that about? People sip wine and chew croissants when they go to an Eagles concert...Mali- freakin'- bu....
The Eagles have been country with a leaning toward rock, but their Walmart release was a straight up soft country album. These days, seems like country outsells rock overall.
You got that right. Country actually sounds like 80's rock and that is where the best musicians can be heard.

With very, very few exceptions, country music is filled to the brim with talentless hacks who couldn't "make it" in any other genre, moved to Nashville, learned four chords on a $69 acoustic Lyon from Wal-Mart, and managed to get some schmo with a few bucks and a recording studio to allow them to record their off-key caterwauling and pawn it on to a music-purchasing audience that has the collective I.Q. of a brain-damaged snail. Awful.

Bullshit on both counts. Song structure may be similar to 80's pop rock but there's no way it sounds the same, apart from a few songs here and there.
Best musicians? I call MAJOR bullshit there. Good musicians, yes, but great? Nope.

I think the poster meant that within 80's rock you can find the best musicians. You disagree? And I quote "like 80's rock and that is where the best musicians can be heard." I totally agree with what the poster said.

Absofuckinglutely. not... sorry, bullshit's on you.
It's not just how fast you can wank off an arpeggio underneath some ass puckering James Labrie vocals....
A *good* musician knows how to play several forms of music, WELL....and not sound like a prog dork that listened to rush and yes his whole childhood....

Sorry...the time of the ass wankering guitarist died with the second bad english CD. Time to wake up and move into a decade more suited to your age...

The album is certainly deserving of it.
I just hope most buyers gave Disc 1 a fair shot, and didn't just want the hits.
It remains to be seen if Journey will be able to parlay this success into further hits unattached to the classics.
Didn't Jeremey or someone say this WMart deal is once and done?

I'm fairly certain that without the Walmart deal, this would have been a blip on the radar. I think the Eagles set the new business model. Unfortunately, they also where the ones to first clip $100 ticket prices as well.

Speaking of The Eagles- I found their new album to be EXTREMELY dull. Anybody else like it?

Are these numbers based on what physically was purchased and walked out the door, or what WalMart shipped the first week? Just curious, I don't know a lot about this, but am not surprised that it is doing decent. The WalMart machine is stronger than any record company these days.

They'll be gone by tour's end.

Out the door sales. I believe 300,000 units+ were shipped into stores.

Drew, the 300,0000 units shipped are only for Europe ? If not, how many units then were shipped for the Euros?
