Postby Angiekay » Thu Jun 12, 2008 12:31 am

They'll round out the summer with a closing show with Alice Cooper August 17th in Tower, Minnesota.

Warrant expects to play songs from their entire catalog, including "Cherry Pie," "Down Boys," "Heaven," "Sometimes She Cries," "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and others. Lane says, "We are chomping at the bit to get out this summer and rock. The original Warrant has mucho grande chemistry."

LOL -- I used to think this until I got more into their later music. They don't suck at all, though most of their earlier radio hits were definitely cheesy. A vastly underrated band, same as Europe.

Dog Eat Dog is a great, underrated album. Another victim of the grunge phase...

While I agree that DED was a pretty cool record, PERHAPS a better scapegoat than the Seattle scene (which produced some DAMNED fine music- and perhaps the heavier guitars and more down to earth image might have actually been INFLUENCED by a certain Pacific Northwest city?) is WARRANT themselves, and their crappy first two records and downright COMICAL image . You wanna know who put the nail in the hard rock coffin in the 90s? Wasn't Kurt Cobain or Stone Gossard... it was shitty, derivitive acts like WARRANT, TRIXTER, FIREHOUSE,...and, oh by the way... let's not forget POISON!!! What a bunch of friggin clowns!

There were plenty of bands whose talent lagged far behind their popularity -- Poison is a great example. Great showmen, but not good musicians or songwriters. But many of these bands also were victims of label abuse -- labels who forced them into a cheesy mold to squeeze a quick fix out of them. As mentioned, Europe was one of them, and I'm surprised they survived it at all. But Warrant -- great players and Jani is a very talented songwriter. Hey, I hated them instantly the first time I saw the "Down Boys" video, and that was honestly the very first time I felt the genre was about to go south. Then "Cherry Pie" came out, and love it or hate it, musically I thought the title track and also "Uncle Tom's Cabin" were a big step up in quality. Still never gave them too much chance until I noticed a friend having copies of Dog Eat Dog, Ultraphobic and Belly To Belly and asked about them. Once I gave some of those discs I listen, I realized what I'd been missing -- a great band that had been killed by a label-created image.

Trixter I was never familiar with, but FireHouse, now... that's one of my bands, man! VERY talented and nice guys.

Agreed on the labels, but nevertheless, the point of blaming Seattle for the demise of hard rock is way off base. Look to the 70's an 80's....Neither Disco, Punk, nor New Wave/ New Romantic music killed off hard rock. Why? Cause it was still worth a shit and hadn't lapsed desperately into parody by that point, as it did in the late 80's...
And I'm sure Firehouse are all fine dudes, I just think they're part of collective of bands that helped " bring the house down", so to speak. And I really had hope for hard rock after G and R and their brethren came about (Little Caesar, Kings of the Sun, Skid Row, even...) but alas, the cheese/ ballad crap won out, and viola! "Rock is Dead" quote Mr Townsend.

I do agree in that I don't blame grunge for killing off the 80's-90's rock, but it did provide the useful outlet to help shove it in the grave for a while. You are right that much of the genre had become a parody, but there were still several great bands that were hitting at that time and because they were late to the party, they never got their fair shot. In general, people had become tired and were ready for a change, and that change was grunge. Now what I do blame grunge for specifically is robbing the fun out of rock for over a decade -- all that crying, whining, pissing and moaning wore thin on me pretty quickly. I think people want their music to lift them up again, hence the resurgence in melodic rock.

I agree that there were lots of bands that didn't get their fair shake- the aforementioned LITTLE CAESAR was one, and I always thought it was a huge mistake for SKID ROW to get lumped in with "hir metal" - those guys were absolutely thunderous live!
But I've always thought it unfair that so much of the 90's music gets lumped in with "grunge/ shoe gazing" stuff, when in reality, there was some fantastic music in the 90's, and a GREAT diversity of it. Hard stuff like TOOL, Pop acts like COUNTING CROWS and THE WALLFLOWERS, funky / groove oriented bands like SUBLIME and 311, great straight ahead rock like BETTER THAN EZRA and VALEJO, and cuting edge bands like INCUBUS all released some fine music during this decade. Compared to the absolute crap coming out NOW>???? The 90's were a friggin renaisance!

That's happened to him before. He's the same style singer as Brian Johnson of AC/DC. I'm surprised that guy can even still talk.

from the frontpage...not a laughing matter, unfortunately.

WARRANT / CINDERELLA TOUR - CANCELLED:
News just in -

"It's with unbelievably deep regret that I must announce that CINDERELLA's Tom Keifer's left vocal cord has hemorrhaged, thereby making it impossible for him to sing in the immediate future.

"Tom felt his throat give way last night (June 11) finishing the set in pre-production rehearsals, went to his vocal doctor (Dr. Stephen Mitchell) in Nashville this morning, and was told the grim news. In the short term,Tom's doctor told him it would be two to three weeks before the swelling and damage would recede to a point to where an assessment can be made as to whether surgery will be required.
Consequently, and again, most regretfully, we have no choice but to postpone the upcoming CINDERELLA tour until such time as Tom is ready tour again."

I used to think rednecks were mythical beasts like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and UFO's, until I went to my first rock concert and realized I was surrounded by a whole pack of them wild, drunken beasties. Low on intelligence, high on weed and alcohol -- the classic American redneck is a serious threat to civilization as we know it.
