What's your favorite live concert video???

Postby G.I.Jim » Wed Jul 02, 2008 10:06 am

I was thinking about this the other day, and it's a tough question for me! I really enjoy the Journey videos I have, but I have soo many, that it's really hard to decide. I like a pretty wide range of music, so while I enjoy Peter Gabriel (He's amazing in concert), I also like Foreigner's "Live At Deer Creek", Pink Floyd's "Pulse", Van Halen's "Live without a Net", and Styx's "Return to Paradise".

I probably have around 60 concert dvd's. Tough decision, but I'm going to have to go with Van Halen's "Live without a Net". The energy on that concert was amazing!!! I do like so many others though..... MAN it's tough to pick one!

What are your favorites?

I actually like the remastered boot of the 81 Journey concert in Tokyo. There are a few guffaws on it but I like it. Lay it down, partys over, Too late, la do da and I think the best live version of Don't Stop believin( and NO Open arms for those that hate that song). I think it rocks more then the houston show but it's stil a boot so the Houston show wins the visual battle. A close second is BSG Full circle. Over two hours of Little river band including stuff from their first album forward. Just great harmonies from the original singers of the group. And to round out my top 3, Triumph in Halifax. Their cover of Rocky mountain way is just awesome and Rik just kills it on Lay it on the line and Fight the good fight.

Easy one, VH - Live without a Net. Best concert video ever. Second would be Metallica - Cunning Stunts

I still love the Japenese concert with Rollie. Got to be the best ever even with bad video. That's one that should be cleaned up and released.

Why is it I just love Journey concerts more than any other?

The Live Infidelity concert was filmed in the early '80's. It was released on VHS, not sure of the year.

Okay....I guess I should have said OTHER than Journey, what's your favorite concert video? Has anyone seen the new Toto "Falling In Between Live" yet? I've searched all over here, and still can't find it. So far, my only chance to get one is by ordering one. I've seen the clips, and even though they "doctored" the hell out of it, I can't WAIT to own this thing!

I also have a "Def Leppard live in Sheffield" video that's awesome, but it's VHS! There's just too damn many good videos out there!

Then without including Journey, slide BSG (Birtles , Shorrock and Gobles) and Triumph up one position and add Moody Blues, A night at Red Rocks as my top 3.

Obviously the perry-Produced "Live In Houston 1981" from a few years back sets a (THE?) benchmark.

That aside, I willl name The Rolling Stones' Live Licks Paris Theatre show off the "Four Flicks" box set as the best concert dvd ever. The Stones in a club in one of their worldwide stongholds is tough to beat, factor in the sick setlist and the show being filmed early in that tour and you have dynamite on your hands.

For me its Metallica - Live in Seattle '89, part of their Live Shit box set. It comes from a ways into the tour right before they hit it big with the black album in '91. Just a bunch of guys playing the shit out of their instruments, having fun and just basically being really loose. Cunning Stunts was also pretty cool, but IMO nothing will ever compare to the energy of that '88-'89 tour.
Rock on,
