LOL...Journey is not in the same league as Aerosmith...never will be. Consider who they have toured with over the past 10 years. That is their league: REO, Styx, Foreigner, Heart, Def Leppard, Kansas, Boston, etc.
This is something the Augeri-led line-up didn't have.
And, you are wrong. They were on several shows.
Because 'Arrival' didn't have commercial success (read: not gold- or platinum-certified),
But, so far, sold about the same.
I think the line-up itself was seen by some as "not legitimate". ("See? Without Steve Perry, they can't sell CDs ..... "). (I myself don't agree with this thought, but I suspect others felt this.)
Explain how having a gold CD after 250,000 means you sold more CD's then an album that sold about the same amount.
I think if the CD goes presumptively-gold (and then for sure if it goes platinum), there will be more people in the mainstream who will see the band as "Journey", and not "Journey-minus-Steve Perry". The commercial success of this CD appears crucial to this distinction and will likely open-up new opportunities for the band that they didn't have over the last few years.
It's irrelevant. Journey needs songs on radio....not a hit album...not 'new songs on tour'...not a gold album. I don't hear another song on this album that will get a lot of time on the radio...certainly not rock radio.
They are not "Journey minus Steve Perry". They are Journey "with some guy who tries to sound exactly like Steve Perry."
