But....Am I hearing pre-recorded backing vocal tracks on I'll Be Alright?

It's a board mix, which means the front of house mix is going to be heavier with a lead vocal in the mix because they'll compensate for the stage volume of the bass, drums etc...So it's not really that "out front" if you're at the venue. Will try for a multitrack live mix in the near future depending on time. We use vocal tracks on several numbers, just like Journey - And just like Journey, our players are also singing live, so it's reinforcement, if you will - Just to give people more of what they might be expecting to hear.

Have to admit, your voice sounds incredible on those new live tracks. Would love to hear a better mix. Band wise, you can tell the difference. The tempo's are better, the drummer is awesome. Congrats!

For the record...Mike was an awesome drummer, as well as a hell of a person! :?

Whether it's Barry, Chad, Mike, Isaiah, Kenny, or Russ, complementing the abilities of one player doesn't automatically denigrate the talent and abilities of the other...

There's nothing wrong with saying the new drummer's a great drummer (kinda hard to really hear all that great in the new clips). I just felt like it was a dig at Mike by saying the "tempos are better". That's really saying that tempos were off when Mike played. I don't recall there being ANY tempo issues when I was playing with you guys! All I'm saying...

Just trying to avoid any confusion or contrOversy! This band's only been playing together for about 5 weeks, so all in all things are coming together well.

No, not really. I don't have any issues with Jeremey, I just know that when I played with the guys, they were an incredible group of musicians, as well as people. I made some friends there, and I get a little defensive when people bust on people I'm friends with! I haven't spoken with Mike for a long time, but he's one of the nicest guys you could ever meet! Also tells some of the best jokes you've ever heard.

I'd go a little easy on the band right now, as they're going through a transition that'll take some time to get everything working perfectly. I think what I could hear of the clips sounded really good. I wish Jeremey the best of luck.

Don't make me whip you Larry! I was only supposed to fill in for 3 gigs, but ended up playing with them for 6 or 7 months. I jumped off at a good breaking point to get back to writing my own music, and to get to enjoy the few weekends that I get off from work. I left on a good note, and really enjoyed my time with them. I must say though...I never thought I'd get sick of playing Journey tunes, but I did! After I left, I really didn't even listen to Journey for over a year!  It's all good.

Tempo

Postby gtrplr1960 » Wed Jul 09, 2008 1:17 pm

I don't know I agree with the "tempo" comment. There have been three drummers in the band. I know two of them and the third sounds good. To compare and contrast, go to www.youtube and search for Frontiers A Tribute To Journey.
I'm rooting for Jeremey and Greg to kick ass on the road. The band is different and will sound different. Jeremey will amaze many people in the future. He is a world class singer.

Yeah, I saw that and thought the date looked familiar. Our Leppard/Styx/Snoozewagon concert was rescheduled for that date at Joe Louis.

I enjoyed the show Jeremey. I finally, finally got to see one. If not live, it was as close as I could get at this point. Thanks for the webcast. We had a fucking blast.

Re: Tempos. I've been youtub'n Frontier's videos for a while now, seemed like most were played kind of fast. A slower tempo allows a better "groove". So far from what I've heard from the new line up, tempos seems to be a little slower, more groove oriented. Drummer's will know what I mean. :)

Hey Mistie,

yeah, I played with them for a while and had a lot of great shows! My most memorable one was 2 1/2 weeks after Jeremey called me and asked if I'd be interested in filling in. The other keyboardist left with no notice, and they still had several shows booked. I had 2 1/2 weeks to learn an hour and a half worth of Journey tunes! The show went off without a hitch (minus a couple of minor mistakes that most people didn't even notice!). I don't think I've ever seen such an excited, or enthusiastic crowd as there was that night at Amos's. There were about 550 people there, and the place just went NUTS! There used to be an awesome video of DSB from that night, but Jeremey's pulled ALL of those videos off his site. Very cool first show though.

I had several other great nights that were a lot of fun, such as the night in a shit-hole bar in the middle of nowhere. A fight broke out after the first half of the show, and people EVERYWHERE seemed to be in the middle of it! The funny thing was...Jeremey started it!  Some guy there was harrassing Sabrina, and Jeremey (while still up on stage) kicked the guy in the ass, as his back was to the stage! They never approached the stage with the fight, but once the fight was over, probably half (of what little people were there to start with) left. We still continued on for the remaining 30 or so people, but I just thought it was hillarious!

Funny stuff...

love your myspace stuff..

Jim! I didn't know you played with Frontiers!!! How cool is that!!! :D

Hey Mistie,

yeah, I played with them for a while and had a lot of great shows!

This is very interesting, GIJ....I wasn't aware of this either!!!
