Name 14 Song 'Unplugged' Setlist You'd Like Journey To Play...here is mine.....

patiently
lights
opened the door
too late
just the same way
stay awhile
who's crying now
still they ride
send her my love
happy to give
i'll be alright without you
why can't this night go on forever
plus two new songs off revelation

Zero.
Hate the "Unplugged" format with very few exceptions.

There's no texture, no depth.

Just seems lazy.

Liberty would work because the studio one was done that way.

I disagree with you JoePA - unplugged sets can be great. Bryan Adams, SRV, Eric Clapton, and Alice in Chains have all recorded superb unplugged sets, for example.

But, with that being said, I don't think Journey music would translate that well to an unplugged format. One of the biggest reasons for this is Neal's guitar style - he relies heavily on the sustain and upper frets that an electric guitar provides that aren't easily translated to acoustic. We all know Neal can play beautiful acoustic... just listen to Time Stood Still, Possession (both from Bad English) or some of his work on Beyond the Thunder. But, I don't know if his axework in Journey would sound right, even if re-arranged for acoustic.

I can see a few songs sounding good...

Liberty
Remember Me
Livin' To Do
Sweet and Simple
I'm Not That Way
Stay Awhile
Wheel In The Sky (12 string)
Who's Cryin Now
Feelin That Way (maybe)
Of a Lifetime (Neal maybe reworking things to sound more latin on his leads ala Livin To Do)

Other than that, Journey music just has that "drive" to it that seems to almost necessitate an electric presentation with distortion, sustain, synths, and the like. Even ballads that would seemingly translate well to acoustic, like Why Can't This Night Go On Forever, would be sorely lacking without Neal's trademark singing guitar.

Right now my only six-string is an acoustic, so when I jam acoustically one of the few Journey songs that can translate to acoustic well (for me at least) is Stone in Love, so I play it to death.

You know what I liked unplugged? Faithfully. (SA played it) The guitar replacing the piano was nice. And I'm not even the biggest fan of that song, but I liked what I heard. :D

I certainly hope not. It was a serious event, and they did say that they didn't want video taken.
I'd really hate to see his first show in two years (at a cancer fundraiser) turned into MR's usual critique-fest.
And god knows what the Journey site would do to it.

That's not what the night was about. :(

If anyone did get video I hope it stays private for personal enjoyment. That's what I'd have done if I did that.

Very well said...I wasn't there, but if the request was made for no video, then I really hope peeps honored and continue to honor that. This particular show has no place on the internet other than pictures and written reviews. That's just my opinion anyway.

Whoever says the unplugged format doesn't work is wrong, for the most part.

For Journey, it would work with several tunes...

Patiently
Wheel in the Sky
Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'
Sweet and Simple
Good Morning Girl
Walks Like a Lady
Open Arms
Send Her My Love
Faithfully
When You Love a Woman
Trial By Fire
It's Just the Rain
Remember Me
Livin' to Do
My blog = Dave's Dominion

No, no... it is a great chance for a good vocalist to showcase his raw talent. And acoustic isn't emasculated at all... sometimes they really rock!

On that note (no pun), I'm off to an acoustic gig. 8)

Good thread for discussion, but personally - I am not a fan of unplugged, and it does sound lazy and generally bands do it when their having a come back or are old.
