I'm looking into this, too, but was told by my wife last night that I'd promised her a beach vacation next year... And I can't wait to show her the beaches in the Philippines... haha!

Rip, I'm sure you and your wife will not run out of beaches to visit...there are more than 7,000 islands in the Philippines--including the uninhabited ones!
I believe that's the reason why the country is called P.I. for short! i.e., Philippine Islands. :D

7,000 islands?!?!?! Wow, that's cool. I wanna go more than ever now. Show Susan the light, Rip. Tell her if she doesn't agree to go that Don Dokken is moving in with you guys.

I believe that number includes the small, simple rock formations. Of course the number could vary, depending on whether it's low tide or high tide. The biggest ones are Luzon (in the north) and Mindanao (in the south). Other great islands (relatively smaller ones compared to Luzon & Mindanao) are in the Visayas (middle portion)--like Cebu, Leyte, etc. There's an international airport in Cebu. I believe Rip mentioned that he's considering to go to Boracay Beach--which is a popular tourist destination in Visayas.

(OK, I'm out for now..see you later, guys)...

We do things much differently over here, but as the saying goes, "when in Rome..." All the jabs (playful or not), stronger language, band history drama, and yes, even the Friganese are best left here... haha! Please...

Once so many of us rushed in, I think some of them were overwhelmed and were afraid to speak Pinoy around the guests for fear of offending us, etc. Really trying to let them know to please just be themselves and if it gets to be too much, we should probably give them their space back. I'm sure things will even out and adjust soon enough... haha. Just don't want their experience with us to be too overwhelming. I kinda try to take my shoes off before entering their house.

GREAT people, and I'm learning so much from them.

That has to go both ways, I would think the one's that come visiting over here have to understand our humour and not be offended by everything that isn't pro Arnel. I lived for awhile in the RP, and found them for the most part gentle, fun loving people, but they will be loyal to their countryman Arnel, sometimes to the extreme, even turning on their brothers if they perceive them to be whitewashed. I'm not trying to be a killjoy but just trying to keep things in perspective. For the most part I love Filipino Culture but I also see them just like any other group of people, some good and some bad.

Well-taken, Gunbot. :D

Agreed. I haven't visited Arnel's site and in all likelihood probably won't but the gist of Ripper's comments read to me like whilst they are aware of and enjoy MR contributors - if you do venture over there do not be yourself for fear of scaring the natives! It's as if some MR people would be perceived as an embarrassment over at Arnel's site - the internet equivalent of going to a party only to find the friend you brought sh!t in the pool.

I would always advocate politeness and respect but with everyone cheekily being encouraged to take off their figurative shoes before entering 'the new house you can be sure as eggs that someone will end up stinking out the joint.

I'm a beach person so I loved going to the white sand beaches of Boracay in the late eighties, it was still not well known back then and was pretty rural. Another great place was La Union. We used to got there once a month to go scuba diving among the Japanese Navy wrecks from the war, and of course any place in Cebu is a great place to hit the beach as well.

Hey, I apologize if I was taken that way Gunbot, because it wasn't my intention at all... But we do live in a time where basic respect and courtesy for other people is on the wane, and all I'm saying is for people to please be respectful. Not cursing and insulting others isn't "not being oneself", unless that's the only card someone has in their deck, and I've seen a few people on MR in the past it did seem to be the case for. They were as much an embarrassment here as they would be over there. Every well-balanced person knows when to cut the act and behave... haha! If you refrain from farting in church, is that not being true to yourself?

I'm actually being myself over there much more than I ever do here -- "Rip Rokken" for the most part is a cartoon character that gives an outlet for my oddball sense of humor... I do truly love Dokken, though!

So man, if you can just be nice and friendly, as I personally think you are, you are more than welcome to join us anytime. Please do!

Is that one each for you and Susan or one for your real self and one for Rip Rokken?

Pay for expedited processing on the passports or you might not get them in time--seriously. It's taking WAY longer that the estimates the State Department has on its website; some of our study abroad students have run into real trouble.

One passport each for myself, the wife, and Rip, but a one-way plane ticket for Rip Rokken -- he's not coming back to the States... haha!

I don't like this at all. Dare I say that any interview is with me for the site, nothing to do with a few "haters" that lurk on a message board.

That was a paraphrase, and not exactly what was said. Basically, he felt there were many people here who weren't that fond of him, but didn't use the word "haters". We are trying to help him reconsider, and people at his site would love to see an interview happen here. Lots of logistics, I'm sure. But it was all positive about it happening sometime.

Yes, I would very much like an Andrew interview with Arnel. If it's anything like the HH interview of late, I'd say it will be a rockin' interview worth "patiently" waiting for.
