Two completely different style of singer. Why even contemplate mixing it up with these two.
I think it's a fine thread if I do say so myself.
I don't know Tito, it is a good thread and all, but the girl who wanted Steve Perry vs Godzilla has a point too!![]()

That's not the Godzilla it's the baby Godzillasaurus. Perry under his street fightin' identity 'The Hoarse Whisperer'(tm) would have no trouble taking him out!

I totally agree different styles, BUT Meine is better today.
And you have heard Perry sing today? Hmmmmm, and we thought only Lora and Cyndi and Randy Jackson have had that privilidge. Don't get me wrong I am not knocking Meine. But I see no reason to knock Perry either, because you like Meine.

I find it odd... or maybe unfair... that on a board dedicated to Journey - a board that wouldn't BE HERE without Perry - Perry gets crapped on more than anyone.![]()
What would have been wrong with posting a thread about Meine and how good he is without even mentioning Perry? Different genres, and as someone said - apples and oranges.

Probably because some people wouldn't bother reading tit's thread without the mention of "Steve Perry". Just another nasty ploy.

All I am saying is all these Steve Perry vs Some other singer you prefer is a bit biased. It makes as much sense to start a thread that goes Steve Perry vs Godzilla, or Godzillasaurus, or Tiny Tim or whatever! Steve is a great singer. Period. I love all these debates...........The people who love Steve will still love Steve. The people who love the other singer will still love the other singer. A bit of a mute point don't you think?.......... Perry still rules.![]()

Perry was a great singer, in fact he was regarded by many, myself included as one of the very best of all time so as you say the point is moot. Oh, you wrote mute...perhaps that might be more relevant when referring to SP these days!
Oh and leave Tiny Tim out of it the poor kid was a cripple... actually on second thoughts...

Klaus Meine is not better than Steve Perry! obsurd comment. Perry's range was superior in his era.
Jimmy Jamison's range doesn't even compete to Perry's range. Jamsion sounds like he struggles in those moments where Perry or even a Joe Lyn Turner would ease through...

Men should be able to sing into their 70's and even 80's in some cases (Pavorotti's father for example), provided they do not abuse their voice. On the other hand, women's voices can change at menopause. In fact many sopranos have to become altos after menopause. Guys like JLT and a few others who do not try to color their voice with fake overtones (rasp), or excessive screaming will be singing well into their 60's if they sing in their given range. Singing from the throat is also a death sentence and that is why a lot of singers lose their voice during a concert. The best rock singers use the same basic techniques as classical singers, it is just the delivery that makes it sound a bit different. Some great male countiry singers are former opera singers. If these guys are smart they will never lose their voice.

There is no "top" singer. It's all a matter of opinion.
I'm curious as to the identity of this so called top singer...?

There are witnesses who say he has not lost his voice. He might not be able to hit the ceiling with the notes, but I think people confuse range with quality. He has always had a voice with pure presence. That is why so many still consider him one of the top vocalist of our time.
