Also, I read the whole interview on the Classicrockrevisited site, and it's clear that Luke is talking about his SOLO tour, not TOTO. He's saying this in reference to the fact that on his solo tour HE'S playing rarities, instead of the hits. (Thus, if he WANTED to do the hits. he'd just hire a Bobby sound alike)
It's really a shot at Bobby, as he says later that Bobby'll be playing HOLD THE LINE till he's 90 (or something like that) implying that Kimball has nothing else interesting to play! So the shot is NOT at Journey, but (I think) at an old bandmate.

Could be...but from a financial side of things, Bobby has a much higher chance of making money than Luke does at the moment. Full band or not, the music of Toto will draw people. Ever Changing Times won't--mainly because nobody has heard of it. Hopefully, Luke will come towards NC at some point. Would be a fun show at attend.

I'll count myself lucky to have seen Toto when they played in Virginia a few years ago. Despite what they sound like on cd, they knew how to put on a rock concert.

First off, I don't dispute Journey's commercial success compared to Toto's. I'm the biggest Toto fan you can imagine but will never suggest they are close.

However, you are exaggerating high for Journey and low for Toto.

90 million seems a little high. I thought it was more like 70 million. Ditto for the "20,000 seats wherever they go". I remember a 2500 seater show in Minneapolis a year or two ago. And while the show at the AC Center in Toronto is indeed at a 20,000 seat venue, they have Heart and Cheap Trick to help. Prior to that, they were playing 4000 seaters at Casino Rama just North of Toronto. My uncle has seen them three or four times there ... with many people being given free tickets on the Casino floor.

As for Toto, the worldwide sales are more like 30 million for that band. And the claim of "1500 seaters" across Europe is kind of silly too. Guess you've not seen them like in places like France, the Netherlands etc. Does it look like the DVD they did last spring was in front of a sparse crowd of 1500?

I just found some old newsletters the other day from (sadly) around the time that Jeff Porcaro passed away. They talk about the creation of Absolutely Live and it sounds as though it's not actually "one concert" but rather recordings from numerous shows in numerous venues pieced together.
