OT- For the Men - My Car, Any Thoughts?

I've had my car, a 2006 Hyundai Accent for two years. Round about two weeks ago it wouldn't start. Jumped the battery, no problem. Happened again later in the week, jumped it again, and because it was after dealerhip hours I took it to Sears. They tested it and said the battery was fine, it was the alternator. Since it was still under warranty, I took it to the Dealership the next day. They tested it and said no, it's the battery, and oh since you're two months past the battery warranty you have to pay 75 perecent which came to $86 dollars. Well, a couple days later the air conditioner/fan started cutting on and off intermittently. Thought it was my imagination, but it happened again today at lunch. So is it the alternator? The alternator controls the electrical components, no? If it doesn't, be gentle because I'm a little car clueless.

Fuck you man. I have a 2000 Sonata that has 171,000 miles and has had few problems. Still has the original muffler. I wouldn't trust Sears if my life depended on it.

Seriously, sounds like the alternator to me. If you have a mulit-meter, measure the voltage on your battery while the car is idling. The voltage should be around 11-12 volts. If you are getting less than that, then to me it means the alternator is not charging the battery back.
Correct me if I am wrong about this MR peeps...

Did you buy the car new? If so, the battery should be covered under the 60,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Hell, my dealer replaced a blown headlight under the bumper to bumper warranty.

We have a Tiburon and received a bulletin from Hyundai earlier this past month. It said basically they had an employee that was sabatoging cars on the line from 2005 to early 2008. He was coming to work drunk and messing with wiring etc.

The bulletin basically said at the end. They were sorry but that if you were fucking stupid enough to buy one of our cars you knew it wouldn't last more than a year anyway so here is a coupon for $ 500 buck off another Hyundai and a free ice cream coupon for Baskin Robbins.

If it isn't the alternator and is an electrical problem, trade it in fast. And do it at night in the dark.

My car hasn't even reached 30 thousand miles. They, and I checked, said the battery was two months past warranty. It was only good for two years.

also search the web MSN or google for your problem. Such as 2006 hyundai sonota won't start. Sometimes it will bring up mechanic chat groups with the same problems. I have diagnosed several other cars this way. There are usually chat boards for most makes of cars.

check the car battery cables ..... probably the guy who installed your new battery didnt do a good job of securing the connection..maybe a loose wiring..

Autozone will check the alternator for free. Once your car starts, the battery is out of the picture, so that is off the list, and for God's sake never, ever , ever trust Sears.
