Well, Andrew's continued pushing of Venus in Overdrive made me pick this up from iTunes this morning. Incredible album. Rick is one of the most youthful melodic rockers out there today imo. He sounds far better than 99% of his contemporaries. So if Andrew's recommendation and the reviews on the front page aren't enough, add mine to the list. Thanks for keeping us in the loop on the great new MR Andrew! I'd still be stuck listening to Escape and Frontiers over and over again if I hadn't found this site a few years back.

Also, I'm listening to an oft-forgotten Springfield classic: State of the Heart. This track is perfection when it comes to a mid-tempo 80s ballad for me. It's all there - out-of-phase/chorused glassy clean guitars, palm-muted rhythm guitars, triggered drums, synth bass, some whacky synth/lead guitar interplay, and of course, great vocals/harmonies. Ya know, 80s production gets knocked on a lot - but synth bass, triggered drums and all that stuff can really set a great mood for a song like this. I kinda wish they weren't so taboo for today's modern recordings.

The rest of the album is great as well - the best comparison I can make is to the last Loverboy album - an 80s act updating his sound so he sounds modern but not straying from his melodic roots. Loverboy and RS got it right; Night Ranger didn't.

I listened to this AGAIN last night. I love me some ricky. In the different style vein, there are several "left turns", as Andrew calls them in the interview and I think it is soooooooooo cool. Andrew-I'll say it again--you find the best stuff for us! thanks!

Venus In Overdrive fights for fav with Time Stands Still. the acoustic Jessie's Girl is steamy! and I love love love My Generation. I need to pop over to iTunes and get Who Killed Rock and Roll--that's a cool track.

someone kinda schutt in his cheerios on a coupla songs! hehe. I love a good gripe song! it makes ya feel better!

Best song on it is "3 Warning Shots". A GREAT song or open letter to John Lennon's killer. It's a great tune. The album itself is pretty good too. I don't think it's nearly as good as the Shock Denial album. That album was a really great, angry ROCK record. Venus is a bit more produced compared to it. Still, it's a great album.

I know this is an old thread but I just picked up the cd tonight and I love it. I'm glad you all talked about it or I probably wouldn't have even known about it. I don't think there is a song on the album I even hate.
